Description for Jaguar XJS 1992
Well, This is a long story, but, I'll try to hit just the high lights. I was a High School Auto Shop teacher in Virginia for 20 years. I bought lots of projects for the kids to fix up and later sold at a terrible loss. It was an expensive proposition, but, lots of fun. I finally decided I should do something worth keeping. Then I found this 1992 Jaguar XJS, sitting in a farm field, destined for the junk yard. It was running on 6 cylinders, sludged up, neglected, and clear coat peeling on the upper surfaces. However, it was absolutely rust free, the top wasn't leaking, the body was fairly straight, it gave me the feeling it wasn't ready to quit, and it could be had for cheap. So, this became our part-time project for 3 years. So much has been done to make the car a good driver, there really isn't room to list it all. I have a file of over $12,000 in parts. The high lights: top engine reseal with cylinder head gaskets and timing chain tensioner, Ignition rebuild, Injection rebuild, Belts, Hoses, Water pump, All aluminum upgraded radiator, fan and fan clutch, upgraded auxilliary electric fan, etc, etc, etc. Complete rebuild on the A/C system including compressor, hoses, control valve, etc. Complete rebuild on all 4 corner of the brakes with rotors, pads, calipers, hoses, wheel bearings, etc. Complete rebuild on the stereo with Pioneer head unit and Infinity speakers. The list goes on and on.One last final note: PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS ONE..... the original catalytic converters were melted. We removed them and the rear most mufflers. It makes a glorious sound now, not obnoxious, just the right amount to enjoy the V-12 engine. BUT...that means it will NOT pass emissions testing. BUT.... it's 25 years old now and exempt under the new federal collector car law????? I think???? Better check your local regulations if you live in an emissions compliance area. Then, we gave it a careful scuff and wipe and applied a fresh layer of clear on the upper fenders and doors to prevent further erosion. At a glance, it looks good, but, the damage is still visible if you take the time to look closely. The interior gets by with cheap seat covers and the rest, I deemed good enough to drive and enjoy as-is. I have put about 17,000 miles on it since then and have enjoyed it, but, times have changed. I'm out here in Nevada now and I want a 4 wheel drive. Can't afford both on a teacher salary, so, the Jag is looking for a new home. I'll expect a reasonable deposit from the winning bidder, PayPal will be fine. Full payment before or at time of pick-up. I'll do what I can to facilitate pick-up or delivery, but, the responsibility rests with the buyer. Questions and test drives welcomed. I have put 250 miles on it this past week to burn off the stale gas and we can go for a spin. Thanks for looking and Happy Bidding.
