Description for Jaguar XKE Series I E-Type Roadster 1964

Frame off restored Jaguar XKE Series I E-Type Roadster! Wonderfully tuned and ready to enjoy with a fully rebuilt, numbers matching 3.8L drivetrain! All new brakes, rebuilt carburetors, new chrome wheels/ Vredstein tires, and more! Beautiful early Jaguar XKE! 1964 Jaguar XKE Background During the 1961 Geneva auto show, a new XK Jaguar was introduced to the market and forever remains an icon of style to the motoring world, the E-Type. Its stunning lines were an instant success both to... the eye, and aerodynamics, making this car very capable of a top speed of over 150mph! Performance not easily matched for the money during the early 1960s! 1964 Jaguar XKE Info The St. Louis Car Museum is very proud to offer this wonderfully restored 1964 Jaguar XKE 3.8 Series I Roadster. The entire body and forward chassis were repainted to Carmen Red. The Biscuit Tan leather interior is new with a matching Tan canvas soft top and boot cover. All the exterior chrome was refinished and all weather stripping and window rubber replaced with new. Features include telescoping steering column, Smiths instrumentation, heat/defrost, chrome Talbot mirror, and added seatbelts for safety. The interior was restored to new at the same time as the exterior about 15 years ago. The dash and sport seats were stripped and professionally reupholstered in respective vinyl and leather, the switches cleansed and polished, all six gauges were tested or rebuilt for proper function, fresh interior carpets, center console with radio deleted, original wood steering wheel, and all new wiring harnesses throughout (main, bonnet, dash, and rear)! The entire braking system was refurbished with stainless steel sleeved Dunlop brake calipers, new rotors, brake pads, and wheel bearings. The suspension received new upper & lower ball joints, front Boge shocks, and heavy-duty rear springs with Woodhead shocks (4). The 72-spoke chrome wire wheels wrapped in Vredstein 185SR15 Sprint ST Radial tires. All body and suspension bushing were replaced and the steering rack and column were rebuilt. And finished with the superb sound of a correct quad chamber exhaust system with chrome tips! More recently in May 2017, a comprehensive rebuild to the engine was completed by H.D Rogers & Sons in Bossier City, Louisiana. The started by reconditioning the original, numbers matching block, head, and crank. The block and head were dipped, honed and bored. New main bearings & rod bearings (both .020), new standard pistons, grind & balanced crank, wrist pin bushings, upper & lower timing chains all installed, fresh head & pan gaskets. The original triple SU carburetors were rebuilt and polished with new Grose needles and fuel lines, polished the intake manifold, re-cored the radiator, new water pump, cleaned fuel tank, and rebuilt Lucas generator with new brushes. NGK spark plugs, Champion wires, points, condenser, and Lucas Gold coil complete the ignition. The exhaust manifolds were porcelain coated. The original 4-speed gearbox has remained quite tight, so it received a new clutch and fresh hydraulic fluid. It is truly a very sharp example, even with a now approximately 15-year-old cosmetic restoration! The current odometer reading is only 65,836 miles! This early E-type needs nothing to be enjoyed right away! Make no mistake; restoring a car to this degree is growing increasingly expensive to complete these days. This is a chance to own a car restored with brilliant, show quality results at a fraction of those costs.
