Description for Jaguar XK 1964
During the 1961 Geneva auto show, a new XK Jaguar was introduced to the market and has forever remains an icon of style to the motoring world, the E-Type. Its stunning lines were an instant success both to the eye and in aerodynamics, making this car very capable of a top speed of 150mph, nearly matched by cars like the Ferrari 250 GT delivered by a V12 and over twice the price tag! The St. Louis Car Museum is very... proud to offer this nicely restored 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster for sale. Built in May 1963 and dispatched one month later to a German dealership called Fendler & Luedemann, it would wear UK registration 5088WK for the original owner who opted for export delivery before shipping it home the United States. Finished originally in Opalescent Dark Blue over Grey, it is now displayed beautifully in British Racing Green over Biscuit Tan Leather interior with matching Tan Stayfast canvass top & boot cover. It remains in wonderful condition considering its last ground up restoration was completed in 1991 commissioned by a Bountiful, Utah owner at that time. The entire car was completely stripped to achieve a proper color change, also allowing for a completely new interior! The dash and seats were stripped and professionally reupholstered in respective vinyl & leather, fresh interior carpet, a center console with upgraded Alpine AM/FM/Cassette radio installed, original wood steering wheel, and all new wiring harnesses throughout (main, bonnet, dash, and rear)! The original engine was replaced with a fully rebuilt Series I 4.2L variant from 1967 (7E1443-9) providing 265 horsepower through original triple SU carburetion and 4-speed manual transmission. Other options include 72-spoke chrome wire wheels, Michelin X 185.15 Redline tires, proper Smiths instrumentation, and telescoping steering column. The previous owner from its most recent Texas collection for the past 16 years had replaced the starter, fuel pump, filter, and hoses in 2006 and had only driven it sparingly since. Upon arrival to the St. Louis Car Museum in May 2019, we performed a comprehensive inspection and made some improvements. These included new battery & voltage stabilizer, new NGK spark plugs, new carburetor floats, engine oil/filter change, new complete Bell stainless steel exhaust system, rebuilt clutch slave & master cylinders, new interior blower motor, replacement of the transmission & differential fluids, new brake light switch, fuel level sender, and steering rack boots with fresh outer tie rod ends. The original radiator showed evidence of past leaks, so it was replaced with a brand new aluminum unit from Wizard Cooling for added performance, along with all new coolant. It is truly a breathtaking example, even with a now 25+-year-old restoration! The current odometer reading is only 35,074 miles which we believe to be actual since restoration. It is an outstanding, early E-type that needs nothing to be enjoyed right away! It comes complete with JDHT Certificate, an extra set of keys, and matching spare. Make no mistake; restoring a car to this degree is growing increasingly expensive to complete these days. This is a chance to own a car restored with excellent attention to detail at a fraction of those costs. Please feel free to call with additional questions or to schedule a chance to see this classic car for sale in person. St. Louis Car Museum & Sales can assist in further information and detailed photos of our inventory, along with helping to arrange transportation for your next classic car investment!
