Description for Jaguar XJ12 1973

ACORDING TO JAGUAR - DAIMLER, Heritage Trust, only 926 of THIS VERY RARE CLASSIC COLLECTOR CAR, were sold in the United States in 1973. Late 1973 Jaguar went into production of the Series 2 XJ Models.1973 Jaguar XJ12 CLASSIC, Short Wheelbase Left Hand Drive. We have owned this car for 42 years having bought the car May 5, 1980. The car is straight and is a California car.
(O) Model year 1973 XJ12 Series 1 when built and introduced in July of 1972, WAS ALREADY A COLLECTOR CAR.
(O) Only V12 Powered four door sedan in the World in.
(O) Fastest four door sedan in the World at 147 mph.
(O) First year V12 Engine installed in Series 1 XJ's'
(O) Last year of Series 1 production.
(O) XJ Production September 1968 to August 1973 Total Short Wheelbase, Left Hand Drive produced 29,837 of which only 1,761 were XJ12's.
(O) Only 926 XJ12 Series 1 LHD, SWB were sold in the United States in 1973.

Jaguar first introduced the v12 engine in the final year of production of the Series 1, four door Sedan, only produced 1,761 SWB, LHD. XJ12 and sold 926 Series 1 cars in the United States in 1973, making it a very rear collector car. This put the 1973 XJ12 Series 1 in the unique position of being both the first of its kind and the last. Jaguar started production of XJ 12 Series 1 in July 1972 for Model year 1973 and ended production in August 1973 so they could start producing the XJ 6 and XJ12 Series 2.
When the 1973 XJ 12 was introduced, it had the distinction of being the only Production Line four door sedan powered with a v12 engine in the world, other than Ferrari and Lamborghini. It was also the fastest 4 door Production Line car in the world, reaching a speed of 140+ miles an hour.
According to JAGUAR - DAIMLER Trust, this car was built on 17 October 1972 and was dispatched on February 23,1973 to British Leyland Mtrs., Inc., New York, USA., It was 161st car of this model off the Assembly Line.
We have the Production Record Trace Certificate No. 1831, which lays out the information regarding this particular vehicle and indicating that it has matching numbers. This is a California car, and the body is sound straight and has only two places where there is slight rust as indicated in the photos.
I had the car re-painted approximately ten yearsago and had the bumpers re-chromed at that time. The car for many years has been a third car with very little use. After re-installing the newly chromed bumpers and while parked on the street both bumpers were damaged within two weeks of being re-installed.
Several years ago, when using the car, while my minivan was being repaired the jack-shaft that drives the distributor broke and the car was placed in storage.
The car now besides needing the jack-shaft replaced it has a sticking valve when I hand turned the engine the other day, when checking to see the overall condition of the car to be put up for sale. The engine rotates 360 degrees.
A BUYER WOULD HAVE TO CONSIDER GOING THROUGH THE ENGINE (a complete rebuild). The Transmission was replaced after we received the Certificate of matching numbers, so the replacement transmission would have to be removed and disassembled to be re-assembled, using the original gear box Case, with the Matching number, that I kept
The car will need all new tires. There is a small pocket of rust in forward corner on left side of well for spare tire. The rear passenger side door panel has come loose at the top of the panel and the wood trim has come off since the photo showing the area of door. The No Draft window on the passenger side opens and closes, but the control knob turns but does not remotely open and close the window. The power widows functioned prior to it being placed in storage, several years ago, but the battery became sulphated over time, and the windows have not been exercised since. The fuel pumps will have to be gone through or replaced. The fuel tanks would need to be cleaned out==> BUT, it would be much more financially efficient to install new fuel tanks. The vent system that runs under the head liner would need replacing as well as other hoses, throughout the car at 49 years old.The A/C pump will need overhauling or replacing, and the system gone through. The power steering ram has been replaced and overhauled, ==>But will need to be done again by now.The Upholstery will have to be replaced. The driver's side seat is worn with two tears in leather, i can send you a photo through ebay messaging. The wood instrument clusters will have to be carefully taken down to the wood and re-varnished.The bumpers were re-chromed several years ago but now would have to have small dents repaired and re-chromed. Be sure to have them chrome both exterior and the interior of the bumpers.
I was in the process of beginning to restore the car while still having it as a back-up car, but the jackshaft snaped.
This car is in very good condition to be considered for restoration, BUT IS BEING SOLD AS IS.I RECOMEND, using a Pre-Purchasing Inspection Service, (PPI).
NOTE: There is a fully restored 1972 JAGUAR XJ6 Series 1 for sale in excellent condition FOR SALE for $72,995, ONLINE THINK ABOUT THAT!!!
