Description for Jeep CJ 1985
1985 Jeep CJ7 LaredoI've owned over 20 CJs in my time and this is one of the nicest, most original CJs left in existence today. This CJ has been meticulously cared for. Other than having an aftermarket CD player, this Jeep is as original as it was when it left the factory in 1985.
The Jeep has resided in Oklahoma, Texas, and now Arizona. Given the arid environments of all locations, this Jeep does not have a spec of rot anywhere. As with any 30+ year old vehicle would, it does have some very very light surface rust on some ares of the undercarriage and frame, but it is all extremely superficial. It literally scrapes off with your fingernail.
This Jeep is unbelievably nice (an easy 9/10), but not perfect. As it sits now, the heater core has a leak (leaked from the overflow drain and did not leak inside the tub anywhere) and it has been bypassed for the time being as I have not had the time, or need, to replace it. Also, this Jeep has a stress crack on the tub where the seat mounts to it...a very common problem with CJs. Many CJs have this crack and there really is nothing that can be done to prevent it from happening. You can certainly leave it as-is, but the ideal way to fix it would be to grind it down and weld it shut. Again, this stress crack is not a problem and is commonly found on many CJs, but I'm disclosing this to be as transparent as possible. Additionally, the doors have stress cracks right behind the vent window, which can also be found on most CJs. It was a design flaw by Jeep by not reinforcing this portion of the window. If you check out some of the popular Jeep forum websites, there are relatively easy fixes to these common problem. Last thing - this Jeep once had an aftermarket CB radio installed and the antenna was mounted on the passenger side rear quarter panel, which is where almost everyone mounted them.
My Laredo has had one exterior repaint, and no known body work. The inside of the tub has not been repainted. I have a clean CARFAX that I'm willing to send to anyone at their request for validation. The original spot welds on the tub are still visible through the paint...just like they were when it came off the assembly line back in 1985! The hard top is in excellent overall condition. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you'll get, aside from the wheel house pads. The wheel house pads (the "arm rest" style pads that sit inside the tub next to the rear seat) have been removed and installed on a different CJ that I own, so that is the only item not included with the sale.
So, I've told you about the very minor and common flaws this vehicle has, which are extremely superficial. Now, let me tell you about some of the positives. The body and frame are laser straight. This Jeep, as already mentioned, has absolutely zero rust anywhere. All the gauges work as they should, and everything is original except for the radio (as already mentioned). Even the original clock still works! The doors close flush and open/close with ease; as they should. The Jeep drives and shifts flawlessly and the paint looks shiny and the depth is unbelievable. The seats are very nice and do not have any cracks anywhere. This is truly one of the nicest, original CJs left on the road today. Definitely in the top 1%.
The Jeep does come with factory AC, but likely needs to be serviced. I have not ran the AC as I have only owned this Jeep for a short time and never used it. I hate to see this beauty go, but I'm relocating soon and will not be able to bring it with me when I move. Rest assured there are no "surprises" that you'll find. This Jeep is not misrepresented in any way, shape, or form. What you see is what you get. Look closely at the photos and you'll see this is a rare gem!
