Description for Jeep CJ 1979
My late husband bought this Jeep from the original Sunoco station in Philly in the 1990's. The Jeep was specifically built for it by Mac Motors. It was designed for jump starts and plowing and didn't see much other use. It sat in the garage most of the time and was in the garage when he bought it. It had 68,054 miles on it and now has 77,462 original miles.Because it was built for the service station, it only had two front seats. The spare tire was bolted to the floor in the rear. It had no roll bar and a hard top. It was fitted with a plow which is included if you want it. If you don't want it, I will sell it separately after the auction.
Being a garage Jeep protected it from a lot of abuse. The driver's floor will need a patch panel ($30-50) while all the other floor is perfectly rust-free. The station owner hopped in and out and the floor was always wet under his feet from snow. Staying inside the garage protected it from the elements. Not driving much on the salty streets protected it from being eaten away like many other Jeeps.
We used this Jeep to pull stumps and haul tools and parts to and from one place to another like a small pickup. We never plowed snow with it. We changed it to antique tags many years ago and removed the chin bar for the plow mount so we could go on trail rides with our favorite Jeep club. We have enjoyed this jeep for the past 10 years. The open back is perfect for camping gear.
After my husband died, I was juggling too many vehicles and drove it less and less. I haven't even driven it at all in the past few years since his death. Time just got away and then it seemed as if it didn't want to start. After battery cables and starters it did start and then died. I exchanged the starter, but haven't put the other one on yet. It will be included.
I hate like heck to sell it, but I don't want it to deteriorate. I will miss it terribly as we had many memories with it. It's been inside a carport for the last 5 years.
This Jeep always ran like a top. I would think it would still for many years to come, but obviously can't make any guarantees. We installed headers and had custom dual exhaust installed. It boosted our mileage and performance.
It has optional front disk brakes that are 10" I believe. Because of this the front wheels are made to clear these. I also am including extra wheels and tires. The tires on it are almost new.
The clutch, transmission, and brakes were never a problem and were working fine when last run. The brakes are still good. It has 5.38 gearing so is very low-geared. I did drive it all the way here from Philadelphia, but never went over 55. We always felt a 4 speed would be great.
On the whole, but body is good. It's not a rust bucket. The front fenders need replaced as does the driver's floor pan. A patch will be needed under the door in one spot near the exhaust. It's starting to show a little bubble on the driver's side. Some bubbling is just starting below the windshield frame, but is in very early stages and can be caught before it become a big problem.
The heater works great and all gauges work. We replaced the black plastic knobs with stainless knobs. We also replaced the hood latches with stainless ones. We purchased a grille vent in chrome that we never installed.
The passenger seat is in perfect condition. The driver's seat is worn. I do have a pair of extra seats that need upholstery if you would like them included.

Note: I have current photos of the engine showing that it is complete. eBay does not allow me to delete the photo showing the headers for your protection so anyone that has bid doesn't receive a 'switcheroo'. I can't add these photos since the max number of photos has been reached. I also can't post a link to where you can see these online per their policy.
I have answered a question and attached photos. If you'd like to see the photo of the engine today, please send in a question and I will respond and attach. This Jeep is NOT currently running. I have tuned it up and bought a new battery and starter. It did start and then clicked again like the starter went bad that I just put on. I exchanged the starter, but was so frustrated that I didn't put it on and walked away. I think that's what's needed, but obviously can't make any guarantees.
If you have other questions, please feel free to ask.
Thanks!
