Description for Jeep CJ 1983
Up for sale is my 1983 Jeep Scrambler. also known as the CJ8. It has been converted to a 4bt 3. 9 Cummins Turbodiesel. Ford T-19 heavy duty transmission. and a Novak adapter to the original Dana 300 4x4 transfer case. It averages 30 MPG and will run on many alternative fuel mixes (biodiesel. waste vegetable oil. used ATF. motor oil blends. etc. ) although I have only run pump diesel in this Jeep. Here is a brief video of the Jeep driving around the corner and a few quick rev's: VIDEO 1 I know the video is a bit short. nbsp;so here is a second link that shows the Jeep accelerating/cruising down the highway @65mph: VIDEO 2The Jeep only requires one wire to the fuel solenoid to run - there is no computer and absolutely nothing to tune! The injection pump has a stage II Denny T fuel pin. which boosted the horsepower to approx. 160 and 400 lb. ft. of torque. It has a 3" into 4" exhaust with a Jones Full Boar muffler. and an open-element K&N washable air filter. The Jeep has approx. 128. 00 miles on it. the engine and transmission have approx. 148. 00. These engines commonly last to 500. 00 with proper maintenance. The axle housings have been trussed for a strength and were rebuilt 5 years ago. The rear AMC model 20 axle was just upgraded with new one-piece axleshafts. bearings. and seals from Omix-Ada. New brakes have been installed all the way around. and a new master cylinder was put in 2 years ago. Gear ratio is 3. 50 in both axles. The suspension it a 4" Superlift kit and a 2" body lift. The tires are approx. 80-85% tread 37" Goodyear MTR's on black rock crawler wheels. I have a 36" brand-new spare included in the sale. The Bestop soft top is 3 years old and in overall good shape. The windows show their age. and there are a few blemishes. but overall decent condition. Hard doors are in decent shape as well. The interior has gray carpet in good/new condition and factory seats with Smittybilt Neoprene seat (waterproof) covers. Gen-Right offroad and Poison Spyder customs armor plating. rocker guards/steps. bumpers and tube fenders are installed all the way around the jeep with stainless steel hardware - These kits are made with 3/16" plate steel and are practically indestructable. This Scrambler grabs a LOT of attention and is a blast to drive on and off road. Overall it's in great shape. not perfect. but great. Scramblers are quite rare. and I have actually only seen two other CJ8's EVER converted to diesel with a Cummins powerplant. It's loud (JP magazine referred to this engine as a torquey "paintshaker" and I don't disagree - this is the right engine for the right driver) however it is extremely fun to drive. economical. and capable of going anywhere while pulling just about anything. I need to offer a little disclaimer: This is my daily driver. not a show Jeep that has had the body tub replaced or a frame-off restoration therefore will be sold "as-is. " You might call it a 98% done project. just to be safe. The paint has some chips. the body has been patched in several areas. and the drivetrain weeps a little oil on the underside - not a puddle on the ground. just moisture on the undercarriage. It's an 80's Jeep. so it does not seal up perfectly - If it thunderstorms and rains heavily. you will stay dry. but SOME water will leak in - I keep it garaged. The entire drivetrain is comprised of used parts - so expect some wear and tear. but everything works well. There is a JVC CD-player in the dash and I have infinity speakers to include. but I have not installed them since I usually use my headphones/iPod (It's a loud Jeep!) Also - you'll notice a wire holding up the tailpipe - since that photo was taken. I have replaced the exhaust hanger and the wire has been removed. With all that being said. you should have no reservations about taking off down the highway or the trails all day in this awesome. torque-monster. rare head-turning diesel Scrambler while getting 30mpg and never having to worry about breakdowns or engine problems!More detailed photos are available upon request. and I would be happy to answer questions about the Jeep. I prefer to communicate via email or text. I highly recommend seeing this Jeep in person prior to purchase. Test rides are available for buyers ready to make a serious offer. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of winning bid. Good luck. and thank you!
