Description for Jeep CJ 1979

For sale is a 1979 Jeep CJ 5 that I have owned for a little over nine months. I am selling my baby because I have retired from the Army and am focusing on remodeling our retirement home. The person I bought the jeep from did an off the frame rebuild. It has new windshield frame and glass. flares. new hood with latches. new tires. new fuel system including tank. all new brakes (disc front and drum rear). brake lines and master cylinder. It has a T-150 3 speed that had been rebuilt. New clutch and pressure plate. springs. a DANA 20 rear end. new front and rear drive shafts and new wheel bearings. The engine was replaced with a 1986 258 six cylinder with new starter. new intake and exhaust manifolds and all new exhaust system. It has an electronic HEI ignition. The engine does not smoke or use oil. I believe it has over 100. 00 miles on it. The jeep is in very good shape and runs good. The jeep tub has had new panels welded in and includes new floors and side rocker areas. The jeep has coil over shocks on all corners so it rides stiff but handles great (for a jeep). The springs are stock with new bushings front and rear. Frame has been beefed up at front and rear where CJs liked to rust over the years and it also has new rear and front bumpers. It also has a custom linkage for the clutch pedal. The paint job is less than a year old but is not perfect. The paint color is “VW Tornado Red”. The seats where completely replaced about a year ago and are clean without tears. All the instruments and switches work. The jeep is in nice shape for its age but it is a 1979 Jeep. Please keep this in mind. The issues I know about are: Valve cover leaks more than a little and leaks down on the manifold and down on the engine. I am not for sure if the rear main bearing in the engine leaks or if it is just the valve cover gasket leaking since it seems to be running down the engine in the same place. The engine does not seem to use oil and the leak is not very large. (See drip pan photo. This is the amount of the leak for sitting over night). The jeep is really hard to start when it sits for more than a day. The current carburetor was rebuilt last year but seems to have not been done right. If I was going to keep it. I would buy a new carburetor to possibly fix this issue. The brake and clutch pedals need new rubber foot pads. The jeep needs a new spedo gear for the speedometer. The speed is not accurate on the speedometer. The heater core has a small leak but would be easy to replace. The wiring harness for this jeep is bad. I think it is a miracle that all instruments work. The jeep needs a new wiring harness for the front and back. I don’t know why the previous owner who did all the work to restore the jeep but put the old harness back on. There are a lot of splices in the wires and I feel it should be replaced completely. All instruments work but I would be concerned about the condition of the wires if I was buying it again. It does not have a full top but does have a bikini top I believe I have covered the areas that are wrong with the jeep. Please ask any questions. I will answer honestly. I hate to sell the jeep but need to pay for remodeling projects for our house and my wife says it is time to sell the baby…. Buyer is responsible for full payment. Please provide a $500 deposit at the end of the auction within 24 hours. Payment should be in cash or money order within 7 days. The jeep is sold as is with no warranty. Thanks for looking!
