Description for Jeep Wrangler 1990
Up for auction is our 1990 Jeep Wrangler Islander. This jeep still has original Islander paint and graphics along with the Islander alloy wheels. Rust and corrosion is minimal on the body or frame of this Jeep especially compared to other jeeps the same age in the northeast. No rust holes. We have owned this vehicle since 2009 and it has never been a daily driver or seen heavy use on winter roads in the time we have had it.This Jeep has OME 2.5" leaf springs all around with MORE greasable â…" shackles. It is currently sitting on 31x10.5 R15 Treadwright tires (about 90% tread remaining) and a matching sized spare with 100% tread. Shocks and steering stabilizer are OME. This Jeep has a very smooth ride for a leaf spring suspension.
The soft top was recently replaced with a Bestop Sunrider and all new hardware. No rips or tears and the windows are all clear. This particular soft top allows you to fold back just the first section and drive as if it was a sunroof, or can be collapsed all the way down to become a convertible. There is also a newer locking center console with space to mount and lock a radio or CB inside. The Jeep could definitely use a new set of speakers, and the passenger side seat back is loose under the fabric. Otherwise the interior is pretty clean.
The engine is a bulletproof AMC 258 (4.2 liter) coupled to a 5 speed AX-15 gearbox. The clutch has a smooth low engagement with no chatter. This jeep shifts really nice! Trans, transfer case, and differentials have all been regularly serviced with the correct fluids. The engine runs strong and smooth with a Weber 32/36mm carburetor. This jeep is subject to hard starting / long crank time if it sits for a few days. It is a common issue with fuel evaporating out of the carburetor bowl and losing prime.
