Description for Jeep Cherokee 1983

FOR SALE: 1983 JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO 6 CYL, 4X4, AUTOMATIC with Fuel Injection

I purchased this Cherokee in 2004 with 150,000 miles on it because it was a rust-free California car. I knew I wanted to build one, so around 2 years ago, I finally got around to this one. When I started the project, I found the receipt for the rebuilt 258 cid Densmore engine at 121,937 miles and a rebuilt Trans at 142,450 miles. Along with, what’s left of, the original build sheet. t was a great start.

This Cherokee is about 90% stock including OE front seats, OE shag carpet, suspension (other than shocks) and the body. The body has been repainted with a new Laredo stripping kit from Phoenix graphics. This unit did not have the rear carpet (floor or tailgate area) or a rear seat when I bought it. I had no use for these, so I did not address those issues during the build. I now have installed a rear seat in case the buyer would want one, it’s in good condition but NOT from a Laredo package so it would need to be re-upholstered to match. I also added a retro radio (looks like an old AM Jeep radio with modern features).

I installed a new fuel injection system on it. This system uses GM components and HEI ignition, it has worked out great. It also has new 31x10.50R15 BFG and Procomp wheels, new Bilstein shocks, starter, alternator, electric fuel pump, (req for the fuel injection) filters, plugs, belt etc. Changed the weather-strips, replaced most of the lights and bezels, and repaired a bunch of minor problems. Everything works on this including A/C, heat, tilt wheel, power steering, 4X4, fuel gauge, even the rear power window.

This is a great looking, great running, near original, last year full size Cherokee. I have just recently (September) returned from a Route 66 trip, total of about 6,000 miles, and got 18.83 miles per gallon. NO REALLY! This unit can be driven anywhere, and it was. As a result, it now has some rock chips on the rear flare so to preserve it they should be repaired.

There were a total 2,714 Wide Track 2 door Cherokees built in 1983. Of this number, I would guess less than 30% were Laredos, most were Chief packages, so my best guess is this is about 1 of 800 or so built.
