Description:

You are looking at a 1970 Postal Jeep (DJ5) body mounted to the chassis & drivetrain from a 1993 ¾ ton 4x4 K2500 Suburban (donor drivetrain had approx. 140K miles on it)… It has a big block 454 engine… It has the 4L80E transmission and the heavy duty 14 bolt rear end… Also has the tow-package built in (this thing was built to tow!)
The complete suspension/steering/brakes as well as the 454 big block engine is OEM... It has the reliable (TBI) Throttle Body fuel injection system… The engine sounds and runs great and is electronically controlled by a new stand alone computer (OBDII ECM)… It has dual 2-1/2” Flowmaster mufflers...
The transmission is the heavy duty 4L80E version… PLEASE NOTE: At present the tranny is operating in MANUAL mode only (you have to shift gears manually) but with a simple stand alone controller you can program it to operate any way you want, even paddle shifters (TCI controller costs about $500 I think)… Remember, this is a FOUR WHEEL DRIVE truck… The front differential and transfer case are all factory equipment and incredibly heavy duty and easy to get to and work on…
The Jeep body tub was in very good shape and mounted to a custom sub-frame that was then mounted to the GM frame with heavy duty isolated body mounts… A heavy 2”x2” steel frame for the rear bed was built and this frame extends completely around the tub to create a cage (an exoskeleton) and then that was skinned with Aluminum… Very strong aircraft style construction… The roof is fully structural, can hold a lot of weight and has a platform built on top that is covered with waterproof outdoor marine carpet and can be used for anything from cargo to pitching a tent! … The main doors are removable by simply lifting them off… The bed has ¼” thick aluminum sheet lining it and there is an access panel that makes getting to the fuel pump (if needed) very easy… All the Aluminum could be polished out if desired, I just used scotch-bright on it until I decided what to do next, but it’s actually very easy to maintain….
Almost everything mechanically has been serviced… I know it’s not very ‘pretty’ as it stands at the moment but it is basically a blank canvas and could go in many directions from here … It needs a simple wiring loom, an interior of your choice (and seat belts etc) some sort of front fenders, and generally cosmetic stuff but most of the nasty mechanical and structural stuff is done… There is probably other stuff that I forgot about so you’ll have to come take a look at it… One of the advantages is that ALL the mechanical parts for this truck can be purchased EXTREMELY CHEAP from any Autozone or Pep Boys!
