Description for Jeep Commando 1972
Here we have one of Toledo's finest, a 1972 Jeep Commando. This was near the end of the line for the Jeepsters, succeeded by the big Cherokees and Wagoneers. Being a later edition model it got the benefit of a factory V8, giving it the chops to run down the modern interstate without getting passed by everything on the road. In fact the 304 cubic incher in this one has surely been warmed over a bit because it runs and sounds great. Backed up by a three speed automatic and equipped with a three speed transfer case with locking front hubs. It also features power steering and dual circuit power brakes (4-wheel drum). This is a very clean Jeep; an older restoration with a fresh rebuild motor and transmission, a sold frame and undercarriage. The paint is a good driver quality with a few flaws here and there but no rot on the body. The top has a few areas that could be addressed, but nothing that penetrates the cabin. There are a few tasteful mods, including pipe bumpers, steps and wheels powder coated a contrasting tone to the Yuca Tan Metallic body color. Larger side view mirrors look good and add welcome visibility over the tiny originals. Inside are some modern high back bucket seats with working power adjustments, a grant steering wheel and great sounding stereo system.
This Commander starts easy, idles good and runs cool in the Texas heat. These are somewhat coarse vehicles lacking in sound deadening materials and ride sofenting components. Nonetheless this old truck rolls straight down the road, accelerates well and stops as is should. Steering is tight and the ride firm but not unbearable. And of course it is a Jeep and with that comes off road capability coming from a high ground clearance and compact turning radius.
This is a well sorted Jeep that is as nice a driver quality example as you may find. Located in Rowlett, Texas it is offered as is where is.
