Description for Lamborghini Diablo 1992
Gallery Junction is pleased to offer our 1992 Lamborghini Diablo. After a successful run by the famous Lamborghini Countach, Lamborghini knew it was time for a new model that would continue to grow the brand. Development of the new model, called the Diablo, started in 1985 and took five years of development before it was presented to the general public on January 21, 1990 in Monte Carlo. The name ‘Diablo’ is said to pay homage to a fierce fighting bull from the 19th century. The styling development was completed by Marcello Gandini who had also designed the Lamborghini Miura and Countach. Marcello’s initial design was altered a bit by the styling team at Chrysler in Detroit, Michigan. Chrysler had acquired Lamborghini in April of 1987, halfway through the total development time of the Diablo. Chrysler’s alterations are said to not be too far from the original design since Marcello still put his signature on the side of the final car. The interior of the Diablo was designed by Chrysler and featured fully adjustable seats and hand-stitched Italian leather upholstery. Entrance into the Diablo was made easier than the Countach and side visibility was also improved dramatically. There were few options on the Diablo which included a remote CD changer and subwoofer, the rear wing, factory fitted luggage and a Breguet clock. When the Diablo was originally built, its top speed was projected at 202mph. However, on the Nardo race track it reached a staggering 211mph. The drivetrain that pushed the Diablo to these speeds consisted of a multi-point fuel-injected V-12 engine with four valves per-cylinder, and a displacement of 5.7-liters. The engine would produce 492-bhp. The Diablo’s performance put it at the top of the exotic cars with the likes of Bugatti and Jaguar. The example offered here is finished in iconic white with a tan interior and its V12 sounds like nothing else. It runs and drives beautifully and is a wonderful example of the marque. Excellent history on this California Diablo make it an excellent addition to any collection.
