This is the short wheelbase Land Rover Turbo Diesel. One of the most capable off road vehicles you can own. It is powered by the 4 cylinder Turbo Diesel Engine which is known for its lowdown torque, rivability and most importantly, uel economy. This is a classic Land Rover and is only going up in value as Defender production comes to an end in the UK.
The Land Rover Defender is a legendary design that has spanned 60 years in production with very little change and only a small amount of modernization. It is still in production today making it very difficult to differentiate a 30 year old Defender from a brand new one. Its 4 wheel drive system is unsurpassed for simplicity andeffectiveness. It has a 5 speed manualtransmission mated to a 2 speed transfer box. The transfer box enables you to select High Range or Low Range, iving you effectively 10 forward gears and 2 reverse. High Range is for road driving where as Low Range can be engaged for extreme off road driving when the going really gets tough. The transfer box also has a differential between the front and rear axles enabling the Land Rover to run 4 wheel drive all the time, t any speed. There is no requirement to lock the front hubs (they are permanently locked) or get out of the vehicle, t can all be controlled from within the cabin. For really extreme off road you can lock the center differential to ensure even distribution of power to each axle regardless of wheel slip. Very few vehicles can beat this vehicle off road.
The 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine has been very popular in Europe for a number of years. The diesel engine offers lots of low down torque and the turbo extends that torque over a much larger range of engine speeds which results in strongacceleration when accelerating through the gears but also an unmatched low speed drivability. As it is a 4 cylinder diesel it returns good fuel economy returning up to 30 MPG. The engine, ransmission and running gear are all original and in exceptional condition. This Land Rover has only ever seen light use and never used to its full potential by previous owners. This vehicle has never been used off-road judging by the straight and original under body condition.
The Aluminium and steel body on these Land Rovers means that they have a history of rusting excessively. However this particular vehicle has led a very sheltered life and shows none of the normal rust. It has had a recent respray in 'Anvil Gray' to tidy up the original, aded paintwork. The front seats, enter arm rest and carpet are brand new. The rest of the interior is original and due to its hard wearing design is still in exceptional condition.
