Description for Land Rover Defender 1961
I am selling my 1961 Land Rover Series IIa 109. This is a truly unique Rover that was built to drive. Its not a show piece, ut it is a very nice daily driver. I wanted a trouble free Rover that I could take on overland expeditions and built this to that standard. Its not for everybody, ut it gives you the classic Series look with all the modern conveniences and reliability. Its running a Ford 5.0 and complete 1999 Ford drivetrain. It can cruise at 75mph all day long in comfort or take youas deep into the wilderness as you are comfortable going. It is not a rock crawler by any means, ut it will take you where you want to go. If something did go wrongwithsomeday down the road, anyFord dealer can pluginto the computer and diagnose it just like it was any late model.
I restored this about 5 years ago. I tried to use as much of the original donor as possible. The AC blows cold and the heater does its job. The seats are leather and heated. It has a full interior roll cage with 10 mounting points along with the Ford crumble zone front fenders and break away steering wheel. I'm confident this is one of the safest Series/Defenders out there. Almost all the rubber along the windows, ront shield, op, oors, tc are new from Rovers North. The front windows have been modified to roll down instead of side venting. The safari roof rack and ladder are custom builtand STOUT! The tires were put on new in 2011 and still have plenty of life left. The wheelbase has been extended to 112". I tried to hide as much of the extension as possible in the bulkhead. I liked the original headlight in the grill look vs. a Defender, ut the engine packaging demanded the grill move forward. Its just a shell as it is without working headlights. The lights on the bumper are the real working lights. With the grill moved forward, he hood had to follow - hence the extra long cowl.
The bad...The clearcoat on the hood and the top of the front fenders has started peeling pretty badly. Personally, think it adds a little character, ut it is a pretty easy fix. The truck is solid, ut there are a few minor signs of surfacerust at a few places. The bulkhead is good and solid though. The interior needs to be finished. It a little sparse as is. I have debated how nice I wanted to make it over the years and just never pulled the trigger on any decision.
It is titled and insured as a 1961, nd I have had no issues in Arkansas. The winning bidder will also get the Ford title as well in case your state has different requirements.
Shipping is 100% the buyers responsibility. I will help with meeting a delivery truck or whatever the case may be.
The winning bidder must pay in full within 7 days after the auction ends.
I have set a reserve price, ut prefer not to disclose that at this time and just let the auction run its course.
Send me a message with any questions. I have more pics, o let me know if you want to see anything specific.
