Description for Land Rover Defender 1994
Offered for sale here is my 1994 Land Rover Defender 90 NAS (North American Specification).First, a couple of notes: For some reason when searched this listing comes up with the title "Land Rover Defender Black" I have no idea why or how the "black" description got in there. I did not type it and I am unable to change that text when I use the revision function available for the listing.I just want to clarify that the reference to black is not relevant to the actual listing. Once viewing the actual listing the title is correct.
Second: The AutoCheck report states "2 owners". I have owned this vehicle since new. I have had it titled under two entities, first my company and then myself personally. It was purchased for me as a year-end bonus by my business partner in 1994, financed and titled to my company. After it was paid off and depreciated on the company's books I transferred title to myself personally. AutoCheck report makes reference to a lease and I suppose that financing at the time was lease to own. I did not handle the paperwork on the acquisition at the time. Title has been clear for 17 years or so and I do not recall the details of paying it off.
As I type this the vehicle has 31,950 actual original miles on it, virtually all of them put there by me. ( I recall a cross country trip on which I allowed my girlfriend to do some of the driving). Of all the many vehicles I have owned in my life I have been more protective of this one than any other I can think of.
After I first received the vehicle I did drive it year round here in Milwaukee. After a couple of years of that, I decided I did not want her to see any more winter use and drove her only in the summers. After couple of years of that, I became frustrated with looking and not touching during the winter and decided to relocate her to Las Vegas. where I kept her garaged at a friends house, and for several blissful years I made trips to Vegas every 4 or 5 weeks to visit and take the D90 on excursions to Death Valley, Red Rock Canyon, numerous areas around Lake Mead, and occasionally farther: Moab Utah, etc.
Eventually my business and lifestyle changed to the point that I could no longer keep my trips out west so regular and frequent. After a couple years, somewhere in the 2006-2007 range, I decided to bring the D90 back to MIlwaukee and return to the summer driving/winter storage program she had been on in the late 90’s.
The photos you see here are all taken in the last couple of days, except for a couple of black and whites I may throw in which are from her Vegas days.
This vehicle is not restored, it is all original except for those repairs/replacements I have made to keep her in a condition which I am proud to drive:
Both the driver and passenger rubber floor mats pretty much disintegrated and have been replaced with the currently available Land Rover replacements.
The clutch and brake pedal rubbers have been replaced.
The driver's side footwell firewall cover deteriorated to the point that I replaced it with a custom cut piece from original “door board” type material.
The driver's side of the center dash cover also deteriorated to the point that I wanted it replaced. Unable to find an OEM replacement I fabricated a custom black ABS cover for that area.
A couple of years ago I replaced the original radio/cassette player (included in the sale) with a Bluetooth capable Blaupunkt Brisbane unit with remote so that I can stream audio from my iPhone.
Other than the items mentioned above, everything you see in the photos is original equipment. The full soft top is in extremely good condition. Personally I do not really care for the full top configuration and the top has seen very little use over the last 22 years. Spending most of its time stored, the top's material presents as relatively near new. It does have one small tear in it, not from wear but from me poking something through it...I don’t remember what.
I am working on the assumption that most anyone looking at this listing is familiar with what a Defender looks like with a full soft top in place, so, I spread the top out on one of my work tables for the attached photos and the tear I am referring to can be seen in the lower left corner. The windows are in excellent condition and shown in one of the photos, and the other roll cage/top components can be seen in the other photo. The “Bimini” top, while having spent the majority of its time in use over the years is so far unscathed. Because of my preference for the Bimini top, the tonneau cover has also seen almost constant use and is definitely the most worn of the top components. I have done some patching of tears in the material, but to date haven’t followed through on my thought to replace it with a custom cover designed to separate more easily between passenger compartment and cargo bed. Repaired tears in tonneau can be seen in high angle rear view of vehicle with tonneau in place.
In this description I have covered details specific to my particular vehicle. Almost all of the other listing for Defenders I have seen here on eBay have elaborated the history and features of the model in general. I have assumed that most interested parties are already aware of these facts; however, I would be more than happy to answer any question you may have about the history and collectible qualities of this particular iconic vehicle.
Additionally, I welcome and encourage qualified bidders to contact me with requests for specific additional photos or even to arrange a visit to view the vehicle personally.
Depending on location and timing requirements I would consider the possibility of personally delivering the vehicle to the winning bidder.
Finally, per eBay Motors listing guidelines I reserve the right to end the auction early for local sale if there are no pending bids.
Thank you for your interest.
