Description for Land Rover Defender 1987
Up for grabs is my 1987 Landy 110 with a COVETED 4BD1 "million mile" diesel engine (recently overhauled a year ago @ 360,000mi). This is not your average TDi or TD5 engine. Only a handful of these drivetrains were slated for civilian production, that too online for the Aussie market. The engine is mated to a 5 Speed LT85 which gives this drivetrain ample speed and power to cruise at a comfortable 90mph if desired. Both, the gearbox and Transfer case, were rebuilt 2 years ago. A recent fillup gave me 800km (500mi) to a tank (20 gallons) on a trip from New Orleans to Dallas.
Give the arid Aussie (Western Australian) climate, this rig had little to no surface rust on the chassis. This is in contrast to most landy's from europe that are flea-bitten with rust. The typical problem areas such as the foot wells, bulkhead ears or corners were left untouched with no evidence of rust. The rear crossmember ends were replaced with 14 gauge galvanized steel, with the remainder of the chassis untouched.
The door frames have a few small bits of rust in the bottom section but do not require any structural repair. I can supply you lengths of replacement channel if you (or any competent welder) wanted to have a crack at it. The wheels/suspension was upgraded with a 3" Old Man Emu lift along with alloy wheels. Additionally, the rear springs have an airbag support system for additional loads, when required. A front and rear differential locker system has been installed. A front tubular bulbar is installed that is winch compatible. I've added a rear ladder to augment access to the Rhino Rack Roof bars. Additionally, a front runner side jerry can mount was installed with an authentic NATO issue jerry can. A Foxwing awning is also included. I will supply a new bag as the current one got hung up and is ripped.
I revamped the interior to include a more functional seating style. I installed rear storage bins in lieu of the safari bench seats (which are easily interchanged). I've also upgraded the A/C system to a more powerful in-cabin setup.
In all this is a mint example of a turn-key Landy 110. Cranks on first start even if after having sat for months (I usually leave it at the airport). Its drive-ability is second to none (happy to provide you a video of it driving on the highway). I have ensured most bits and bobs have been replaced. While not perfect, it comes very close. Mind you, it is a ~30 year old car. It has a few marks of character that can tell you stories where the rig has gone, from the Gibb River Rd to Kakadu and back across the Simpson Desert (evidenced by the red pilbara clay dust that is hinted throughout the landy). You would be hard pressed to find a car in comparable condition/shape given its age, price notwithstanding.
The vehicle was properly imported in 2018, and I am the second owner. It is titled in Texas (in my name) without any liens or nonsense attached. I'm happy to provide the VIN to bonafide parties who demonstrate genuine interest.
Happy to field reasonable offers. My number is 720-295-8782
