Description for Lincoln Continental 1948
1948 Lincoln Continental Coupe Last year Continental Coupe! CCCA Full Classic! Restored 15 years ago and driven less than 4. 00 miles since. A fantastic investment and drivable collector’s piece! When Edsel Ford planned a Florida vacation for March 1939. he requested that FoMoCo’s chief stylist Eugene T. “Bob” Gregorie create a special automobile for the occasion. Mr. Gregorie sat down in late 1938 and within an hour had drawn one of the most beautiful war-era classic and one that stood out so much in Florida that Edsel came back convinced that he could “easily sell one thousand. ” The car was motivated by the existing Lincoln-Zephyr V12 and hidden under a long. sleek hood. There were no running boards and the car’s signature rear-mounted covered spare tire would go on to be named after its first application on this car. The Mark 1 continental saw various changes over its life. most notably the revised front end after its post-war reintroduction. All in all. it survived for nearly 10 years and today is considered a highly desirable but attainable car. and one that has achieved CCCA Full Classic status. The 1948 Lincoln Continental is still the last example of a major US automaker putting a V12 in one of their cars. We are very excited to offer this 1948 Lincoln Continental Coupe! Finished in a fantastic shade of Opal Blue Green over Light Green cloth. this car really stands out among its black. white and silver stablemates. its original 292ci V12 Lincoln-Zephyr power plant producing an estimated 130 horsepower and 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive. this wonderful example runs as smooth as it looks! The car is fitted with several notable options including functional signal-seeking AM radio with fender antenna. cowl vent. dual outside rearview mirrors. 15” steel “Lincoln” wheels fitted with Firestone 7. 00-15 Deluxe Champion gum-dipped whitewall tires. new rear fender rock guards. continental spare tire. rear fender skirts. locking glove box. dash clock. hydraulic windows. heater/defrost. front & rear bumperettes and extensions. carpeted trunk. and more! This authentic ’48 was chosen to be the recipient of an extensive cosmetic restoration about 15 years ago. All paint and chrome were done. as well as most of the interior and an engine overhaul. Less than 4. 00 miles have been driven since this was completed. with the father/son owners only taking it out on sunny and warm Buffalo. NY days. The car remains in fantastic shape. with less than expected signs of wear considering the age of restoration. The car continues to drive wonderfully. with plenty of silky Flathead V12 power transmitted through the three-speed column-shifted manual. The car has had an additional 6V battery placed in the trunk for added starting capacity and this car certainly doesn’t disappoint. Hot or cold. this car fires immediately with just a little choke. This Continental is believed to be finished in the same colors it left the factory with. and the mileage could very well be accurate but we have no way of verifying. For someone looking for an affordable and stylish way to commute in post-war V12 style. there is no better choice than this. We would invite any interested parties to call with further questions!
