Description for Lincoln Continental 1962

Here we have a great find. The Lincoln Convertibles of the 1960’s are coming in strong in the collector market, ut only if they are good cars to start with. While many people prefer the 1961 Lincoln, find the styling of the ’62, s well as the quality improvements make this the very best of the 60’s Lincoln Convertibles. This particular car was delivered through the Chicago distribution center of the Lincoln-Mercury division and was sold new at the Milwaukee dealership. Most of its life was spent in the Wisconsin Dells resort area. As best I can tell, his car was almost always a second car which accounts for the low mileage and nearly rust-free condition. The odometer currently reads35,415 which I have every reason to believecould be accurate. When the pedals, arpet bolster and general condition of the car it is a real possibility. The bottom line is this is a car that is not all beaten up.

This is a pretty complete car but for some unfathomable reason was thoroughly disassembled by a previous owner and is how I found it. As far as I can tell everything for the car is here with the exception of two small pieces of rear trim (that finish the two rear deck-lid hinges) and the exhaust system, hough there may be minor items that slipped through my own inventory. Please keep in mind I bought this car in pieces and it had been disassembled for nearly 10 years when I got the car. Conversely, any of the parts are inventoried and include parts numbers that correspond to pages of the original shop manual that has been copied into CD format and is included. The original build sheet that is typically found in the area behind the driver in the seat back is included. This item shows how the car was assembled at the factory.

Originally this car was painted code X-Black Cherry Metallic with Code 84- Honey Beige interior. Someone repainted it code B Royal Red Metallic and did a truly dreadful job of the respray. It appears that the car had some of the typical rust in the doglegs but otherwise appears to be rust and dent free, articularly in the all-important deck lid. It is very solid with doors that open and close like little bank vaults.

All of the stainless trim is present and is in great driver quality condition. One would want to buff it all for show. Most of the remaining chrome trim is in decent shape though nothing is of show caliber. The interior is complete and present but is fairly worn. It is definitely an original interior that could be used as is if you are an originality purist but would need to be replaced for show. The original top is still in place and is unusual as it appears to be tan in color instead of the typical black or white.

The wheels currently fitted are the aluminum alloy style of the 1970’s but included are a set of correct original style 14” wheel. While they need a good sandblasting they are the correct wheels for the car. Tires are adequate to roll the car around the shop but will need to be replaced before any driving is done with them.

Currently, oth the engine and transmission are out of the car. The previous owner felt they should be rebuilt but I cannot see why. To my eye they are well within spec and will require only cleaning, askets and adjustment before being reinstalled. A new in the box dual master cylinder is included that goes with the car.

The car is highly optioned including power antenna, utomatic headlight dimmer, peed control, ower seat, nd the highly desirable factory air conditioning. To make the car usable it will require at least a good wet-sanding and buffing. It could be easily re-assembled from there with minimal expense in terms of parts. From what I can see it needs the brakes completed, xhaust purchased andinstalled, ires purchased and installed, nd a new set of carpet for the interior and a top. From there the car would be ready to roll. Restoring a ‘60’s Lincoln is not a job for the feint-hearted but this car provides more of a solid foundation for such work than almost any car I have seen in a very long time.

My reserve is low for this car; the deck-lid alone is worth one third of my reserve. If you cannibalized the car by parting it out you would net much more out of it than I am asking. Please don’t though. The car is too good for such a fate.

I have a clear title so transfer of ownership is not an issue.

For an additional $2000 I will include a 1990 Pace Car trailer- 28’ foot-fully enclosed. It is not the prettiest trailer in the world (with plenty of scars present) but has new tires and brakes. The trailer easily accomodates the car and canhandle the car's significant weight. The trailer presently houses the mechanical components of the car. I would be willing to separate the trailer and sell it independentlyl if you are onlyinterested in it.

Summarizing, his is a car I bought as a lifetime keeper to restore to show quality. It is available only because I lost both my storage and work area unexpectedly and I have no desire to leave the car out in elements. Please feel free to call me with questions.
