Description for Lincoln Continental 1942
The Lincoln Continental was based off the striking one-off convertible that Eugene T. “Bob” Gregorie design and built for Edsel Ford and was based off the Lincoln Zephyr blue prints with changes to the long front hood to carry the flat 12 engine. The new Continental was so elegant and carried a European flair with beautiful chrome work and sweeping lines that the New York Museum of Modern Art displayed a 1941 Lincoln Continental in their “8 Automobiles” exhibit in 1951. After World War II Lincoln and Mercury resumed civilian automobile production on November 1. 1945 and introduced updates to the already existing Continental. The Continental was a very exclusive automobile and only 466 Continentals were produced for model year 1946 with only 201 of them being convertibles. Sitting at the top of the Ford production range at a cost of $4. 74 in 1946. was one of the most expensive automobiles of its time. Continentals of the immediate post war era are fully recognized as Full Classics by the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA). This 1942 Lincoln Continental Convertible “Resto Rod” is finished in a stunning and very rich silverblue tone over a light tan interior with a black convertible top and matching boot. The car is believed to have a few owner since new and underwent a complete bare metal strip down and repainted in 2007. The Continental has benefited from proper storage and proper maintenance all of its life and is evident in the presentation of the car. The paint has held up extremely well and still looks beautiful today. All of the panels are very glossy with a rich color and free from any sun fade or damage. There are a few tiny stone chips here and there on the car but still shows beautifully. There are no signs of any previous damage and absolutely zero rust on the car. All of the chrome had been done as part of the restoration in the early 2007 and still looks beautiful today showing minimal signs of age on some pieces. The convertible top is brand new and looks stunning along with its new matching boot. The 15” wheels and tires have about 70% tread life left. The interior looks stunning and shows almost no signs of wear; the leather is soft and supple and retains a beautiful rich color. The carpets all look to be in excellent condition showing almost no wear or any stains. All of the trim and chrome on the interior are in excellent condition showing minimal wear. All of the power features on the car are in proper working order. The power windows are in good working order and the manual convertible top goes up and down as it should with ease. The exterior and interior lights are working and operating as designed. This 1942 Continental has a 1947 front end and features a 350CI Chevrolet engine with tuned port injection and an automatic transmission that operate magnificently which makes the car run and drive beautifully. It starts right up and idles smoothly and quietly. It accelerates beautifully and is free from any mechanical issues. The automatic overdrive transmission operates from a column shifter is very smooth and easy to operate. The power brakes are in excellent condition and do not squeak or vibrate under load. This is a beautifully maintained Lincoln Continental that has been cared for and looked after it entire life. It comes with air-conditioning. power brakes. power steering. and power windows that make it a true driving experience especially on those longer road trips.
