Description for Lincoln Continental 1971
This very sweet rust-free 71 Mark III was given to Al Unser Sr for winning the Indianapolis 500 in 1970. His sponsor and friend, Vel Miletich, picked him up at the L.A. airport in a 1970 Mark III. Al was really admiring the car, so Vel noticed this and told him if he were to win the Indy 500 this year he would give him a brand new fully optioned Mark III.I met Al earlier this year while buying some old racing parts from his shop here in Albuquerque. I had seen the Lincoln sitting tucked away in his private shop. One day I asked him what was the deal with it, he told me the story and said it had been sitting for many years since he had all but moved to northern New Mexico where it gets lots of snow and didn't want to subject the car to that harsh climate. He said he would rather see someone enjoy it than it get all rusty.
So we made a deal where I would repair all that was needed to make the car road worthy (see pictures of when I picked it up). It was last registered in '97 or '99. It had been sitting awhile.
I replaced the tires, brake master cylinder, flushed and bled the brake system, replaced pinion seal, refilled differential oil, battery, fuel tank, sending unit, fuel pump, rebuilt carburetor, fuel filter, replaced all rubber fuel lines, wiper blades, changed engine oil and filter. I didn't wash the engine at all. The car had one repaint of the original color, very nice job. This car is very original, drives very nice and has almost every option available in 1971. The build sheet is in the glove box. I didn't charge the air conditioning and the Cartier clock stops every once in awhile. The title is in Al Unsers name and whoever buys it will be second owner. Windshield does have a star in it by the rear view mirror, the passenger side wheel opening molding has a small push in it and the driver side rear door panel molding is showing foam, see pictures. This is a VERY nice low mileage car with very neat ownership history, Thank You for viewing. Any questions please call 505 350-5387.
