Description for Lincoln Continental 1979
You are looking at a no-reserve auction on a 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V in nearly mint-condition.
The car has a factory 400 cubic inch big-block V8 engine, and runs/drives excellently. It has 4-wheel disc-brakes, and a perfect interior. Not a rip or scuff even on the driver’s side of the front seat. No cracks in the dash or door-panels. Factory Ford CB radio. AM/FM stereo. All the bells ‘n whistles. Everything works, even the cruise-control, and the air-conditioning blows ice-cold! A new fuel-tank was just installed within the past year, as well as belts, hoses, new battery, battery cables custom made and shrink-wrapped, new starter and cable to the starter. It’s got nice tires. It came with the original factory turbine-wheels, which will come on the car, but I installed a set of 18 and 20 inch 5-spoke wheels just to give it a more contemporary look just for the pictures and driving around town for myself which is more to my personal taste. Those can be included with the car if desired for an additional $1,200.
All the glass is good with no chips or cracks. Power windows open and close smoothly. Wipers work great on all settings. All the lights and turn-signals work just as they should, and the headlight-doors open and close with the factory vacuum-pots. I’m still driving it, so it may have a few more miles on it in the coming days, but once it gets a bid, I will park it, and stop driving it. The engine runs great, and the vehicle doesn’t leave any fluid drips on the driveway. I’ve been underneath the car, and the undercarriage is very clean and rust-free. Headliner is in perfect shape. Trunk carpet is still nice, and there’s no rust anywhere on the car except 2 minor areas down low on the chrome of the rear bumper. I am a body-man, and there is no indication anywhere of this vehicle ever having been a collision.
The worst thing I can say about the car is that the right-rear corner of the Landau-Top had a slight tear, and I very much improved it with a vinyl/leather repair-kit… otherwise the top is in beautiful condition. The white contrasts with the silver paint nicely. There are a couple very tiny dings in a a few places, and the paint on top of the trunk is just starting to fade. The rest of the car looks like it just rolled off the showroom-floor as far as the glossiness of the paint, though. The exhaust is nice and quiet with no ticks or leaks. Transmission shifts just as it should, and power steering is pinky-finger easy to operate. I just love that about older vehicles. The 4-wheel discs stop the big heavy vehicle very quickly. Doors don’t sag whatsoever and open/close just like new. The odometer reads 23,029, but could be 123k (the 1 original owner passed away, so I can’t ask him). Still, I see zero wear on the brake and gas pedals. The car has obviously always been garage-kept, and not driven in the snow or salt in Winter.
Hood and trunk springs hold their lids open just like they should, and the lamps work to light up those areas. The spare tire/wheel matches the other 4 (it’s a turbine aluminum one, too… not a steelie). The pinstriping tape has worn thin in a couple areas, but could easily be re-done, or just removed altogether with a rubber-wheel on a drill for a cleaner look. It has a power trunk pop button in the glove-box, and outside mirrors are adjustable on both sides from inside the vehicle with little joysticks. Power seat works great in all positions. Carpet is very nice showing no wear. Chrome grill-shell is perfect, but there are a very few tiny paint-chips on the car (like what you’d expect to find on a 5 yr old vehicle, not a 43 year old one). I see/smell no evidence that the car has ever been smoked in. I got it from the son of the original (non-smoker) owner who purchased it brand new, complete with all the original papers, documents, purchase-agreement, CB instructions/FCC papers, Owner’s manual, as well as some receipts for repairs/maintenance performed on the car over the years, etc.
These cars ride like a couch-on-wheels, and were extremely well built. They’ll never make any automobiles like this again. It’s a timeless, unmistakable Lincoln design style. The car is totally reliable, and I would trust it to drive anywhere on the Continent (no pun intended) at a moment’s notice. It won’t disappoint.
If you have any further questions, or want some more pictures, just message me, and I’ll try to get ‘em to you as quickly as possible. The car has a good, clear title, and is now in my name, so it’s a 2-owner car now, it would’ve been cool to keep it as one-owner status, but it’s illegal in my State not to transfer title into your own name when you purchase a vehicle. I can store the vehicle for a reasonable amount of time if arrangements need to be made for shipping or pickup. I prefer cash-in-hand in person, otherwise if having it shipped, a bank wire-transfer or cashier’s check is acceptable. I can provide scans of front & back sides of the title, and a bill of sale before the full purchase is made. Vehicle is being sold As Is with no warranty. I require a $500 deposit within 24 hours of auction’s end, and remainder to be paid for within 10 days wither picked up yet or not. Deposits are considered non-refundable. I am available most all of the time, and can meet with the buyer or auto-transporter most anytime day or night and assist with loading if not driving the vehicle home. I’ve got a phone number for an auto-shipper that I’ve used for years with zero problems, and competitive prices if I need to provide that for a quote.
Thanks for looking!
