Description for Lotus Lola 328 H.U. 97 1978
Historically Significant and documented vintage raced 1978 - 79 Lola Super Vee model 328 chassis number H. U. 97. It has certainly seen better days but is still significant. 180 - 190 hp 1600 cc VW block motor propelled this 1000 pound race car to many pole positions including at the famed Road America track. It ran both in Super Vee as well as sports racer / Can Am livery as seen now with it's current body. Same owner since 1986 raced it very competitively until the motor blew 15 years ago. It then turns into one of those "never got around to it" stories where the car just sat and became part of the background. As it sits now. every major suspension and steering joint is rusted solid from the elements including steering rack. brakes. shift linkage. etc. The current aluminum sports racer body barely weighs anything and 2 guys can pick it up over their heads like it's cardboard. If I had to estimate. it's maybe 60 pounds or less. It comes with 2 fiberglass noses including the ORIGINAL MOLD to fabricate more. The seized 1600 VW block comes with a very rare dry sump oil pan. The wheels are ATS 13 x 8 rear (2). ATS 13 x 6 front (2). and an additional loose 13 x 7 (2) rears. The original Super Vee baby blue aluminum rear wing goes with it; not sure if the remainder of the original matching Super Vee body can be located. A Jones mechanical tachometer highlights the instrument gauge group. Please ask any and all questions before bidding. The car is currently located in Glen Ellyn Illinois. a western Chicago suburb. and can be seen with some notice. There are still some interesting possibilities for this historic car including various usable spare parts for an existing racer. blue-print for a completely new build. body / shell model for display. etc. I am open to reasonable offers to end the auction. There is NO TITLE as this is and always was a RACE CAR. bill of sale only. There was no option for this on the listing. *** PayPal deposit is due within 24 hours of auction end and balance due within 7 days. Shipping / Pickup is the sole responsibility of the winning bidder but I will assist in whatever way I can ***
