Description for Lotus Elan M100 1991
This car, one of only 800 M100's imported to the U.S. in 1991, was considered to be deliberately futuristic, modern and forward looking. With itsturbo-charged Isuzu Lotus engine, the M100 has a listed maximum speed of 137mph. Succeeding theoriginal 1972 Elan, the M100 was conceived as an affordable, mass-market production car for Lotus and was reviewed at the time as the "finest car Lotus had ever built" (Car and Driver). Its cost of development and production far exceeded its possible return on investment for Lotus, meant to introduce Lotus to the main-stream buyer, retaining a unique place in Lotus history. We have documentation of this car being the first one to reach our shores. Purchased originally by the president of the Lotus Owners Club, we believe this car to have a high degree ofprovenance, being the#1 M100 car in the United States under title, a dramatic entrance. The current owner is motivated to sell. It is very-reasonablypriced and, as the first car imported and owned in the US, it has some collector status.
The body and interior of the car are in excellent shape. The exhaust needs work. Added are shift cables - high performance. Also added is a short-shift kit. The convertible top has a few rips; the webbing for the bows has stretched and also needs attention. It has performance tires.
