Description for Maserati Ghibli 1968
Introduced at the 1966 Turin Motor Show, the Maserati Ghibli made its mark as being one of the greatest European exotic sports cars of the 1960s. Its 4.7L V8 engine was created based on the engine of the revolutionary Maserati 450S of the mid to late 1950s. The very same engine propelled a Type 151 Maserati to a staggering speed of 308 km/h on the Le Mans Mulsanne straight earlier on in the 1960s. The name "Ghibli" means "a hot desert wind that renders all things unbearable and covers everything with a carpet of sand." Indeed the Ghibli was conceived to leave its competitors, such as the Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Miura in its tracks. Designed by none other than Giorgetto Guigiaro of Bertone, only 1,149 Ghibli coupes were created between 1967 and 1972 (including both the 4.7 and 4.9L models), making it an exceedingly rare model. The Ghibli being offered here is serial number AM115 758. It is a European spec vehicle that delivered new to Rome, Italy in November of 1968. It remained well cared for in Italy for most of its life, and roughly a decade ago it was exported to the United States. Shortly thereafter, it was purchased and displayed at the Riverside International Automotive Museum in Riverside, California where it was presented as a wonderfully preserved example up until 2016.
The car has never been restored, subject to having been repainted in its original color of "Rosso Rubino" in Italy. The interior is completely original and untouched, just as it left the factory. The car is 100% matching numbers, showing slightly over 68K original kms (about 42,000 miles). It runs and drives beautifully and has been exercised regularly.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire an incredible European exotic--to continue to drive and enjoy, or as a formidable candidate for a concours restoration.
The car is priced aggressively in today's market, at $195,000 USD.
