Description for Mazda MX-5 Miata 1992
1992 Mazda Miata in the rare Sunburst Yellow. This car is #328 of 1519 produced worldwide in 1992 and Sunburst Yellow was only available for the 1992 model year. While not officially a limited edition vehicle, these are among the lowest production number Miatas ever. This car is in good working order and has been a daily driver for last 2 years until just recently. It currently has 291,XXX miles on the original 1.6 liter engine, but starts strong and revs strong all day long. The manual transmission shifts smoothly and the clutch was replaced in the last 20 months. It has the original factory cassette deck. The interior is in good condition for a 25 year old classic. It is an Californian and Arizona car with absolutely ZERO rust and has been garage kept for most of its life. We purchased the vehicle 2 years ago, and have used it daily with no major issues.
Lightly modified:- lowering springs and adjustable racing shocks- transmission, driveshaft, open rear diff, brakes and wheels from 94 spec 1.8l car.- K&N intake with reusable air filter.- Euro spec taillights- clear front turn signals
Current items in need of attention:- leaks power steering fluid. Self diagnosed problem to pressure hose. Easy, inexpensive shade tree mechanic fix.- factory air conditioning stopped working last year. Have not had this looked at so I can't comment on what could be wrong.- rear plastic window is in need of immediate replacement or needs a new top. Tops start at $200 and can be DIY project - videos of process are on YouTube.- brake light lit on dash, sometimes airbag light comes on.- headlights are up all the time. disconnected from switch.- steering wheel leather and shifter boot are showing a lot of wear from age, but is only cosmetic issue.- a few minor scraps, chips and dents here and there.
The plus sides:- This car has been well taken care of and maintained. It runs incredibly and is a joy to drive.- car has lowering springs and racing shocks and was used by a previous owner to autocross, yet it has not been removed far from its factory original specs. It could easily be modified to your specs to take it to the track or restored to factory condition. Neither is necessary, however, it works fine as is.- rear tires have about 5,000 miles on them, fronts are about half life.- includes tonneau cover and front bra.
Final thoughts:This is a wonderful car and is ready to roll. It is a piece of history and can be registered as a classic or antique car in most states if you want a weekend cruiser. It is being offered as is and I have made every effort to list the current problems with the car. Many Miatas from this era have been modified beyond the point where they can be brought back to original form, but this car has been adult owned by enthusiasts. The previous owner to us had the car for about 12 years and was meticulous in choosing who he sold it to. We have taken care of this car since March 2015. I would highly recommend keeping it in the original color given its rarity.
