Description for Mazda B-Series Pickups 1988
I bought this truck about a week ago with plans on turning it to an off road toy and haul stuff around the house. I decided to go a different direction so I am putting it up for sale. Let me start by saying that the truck runs and drives okay but will require some mechanical conditioning if you want to make it a daily driver. The truck sat for a couple of years before I got it so it will need some basic attention. I will give you a complete detail of the good and the bad of everything. Drivetrain: It has the 2. 6 4 cylinder motor in it with a 5 speed manual transmission. The clutch releases good and shifts into gears with no problems. We put brand new plugs. wires. cap. and oil change before driving it. It runs decent but will need some carb work. because sometimes it wants to stall at idle. This only happens when coming to a stop quickly. It sounds like it has a lifter tapping but gets better at higher RPM's. This can be expected of a truck that sat for a while. Sometimes there is a grind noise at higher RPM's. This stops once you left off the gas or change into a different gear. I have no clue what this could be. The tires will need to be replaced soon as well. The previous owner(s) removed all the smog control so the check engine light is on. They replaced the fuel pump with an electric pump and ran it to a toggle switch. If I were to keep it I would run this to the ignition. None of the gears grind and it shifts fine. It has manual locking hubs that turn freely and the transfer case shifts into gear good. The 4WD works fine. I tested this out before buying it. Body: The body is in pretty good shape for a truck of this age. There is no rust on the truck. It has the original Red paint and the SE-5 decals on it. There are some scratches and dents on it. It has a brush guard on the front with a Warn winch. I am pretty sure that the winch will need to be rebuilt or replaced. Interior. The interior is pretty good shape. There is a tear running along the top of the seat that can be sewn back or a seat cover could be placed on the truck. The carpet is dirty but intact. There are no cracks on the dash. Misc. The heat works good on the truck. There is a radio but it does not turn on. I have not investigated why. The truck is equipped with A/C and still has the compressor. I have not even tried it to see if it works. but assume it does not. The knob for the temperature control is missing so it is on hot. The gas gauge and the temperature gauge does not work. The odometer and speedometer do work. I have tried to explain everything that I know about the truck. With a little bit of work it could be a pretty nice truck. It is very easy to work on and great for a father/son project. Like I said. it has sat for a while so it will need some attention to make it a daily driver. If you have any questions or would like to come look at the truck please email me. If the truck sells locally I will end the auction. On Mar-15-15 at 16:40:02 PDT. seller added the following information: After working on the truck today I found that there is nothing wrong with the carburetor. What is will need in the near future is the timing chain replaced. This is what is causing the grind noise under a load because it is stretched. The complete kit off EBay is $69.
