I am selling my 1990 Mercedes 300 E. It has the larger 3.0L inline 6-cylinder engine that was offered at the time. The miles are very low for the age at just over 169,000. It runs VERY well; the engine and transmission are strong. Engine still purrs as if it's 5 years old and has a LOT of power for a 3 liter yet I always still get 25 MPG every single time I calculate my gas mileage. The car has black exterior with full black leather interior and faux wood trim. The chrome and stand-up hood ornament on the front are the classic style of the W124 series of Mercedes. In general, he car still looks pretty good for the age although there are some metal/paint issues (details later). This car was top-of-the-line and over $50,000 when it came out. It has all power inside such as seats, indows, un-roof, tc. It was ahead of its time in having a factory alarm system. I believe mine has the premium sound system. The Mercedes radio and tape deck are in the dash. One of my FAVORITE things, f not favorite, nd a major reason I bought the car is because the seats are VERY comfortable to sit in and the suspension gives a ride that I feel only Mercedes can produce. It is a VERY comfortable car to drive around in.
There are lots of new parts in the last few years: Rebuilt A/C, efurbished front brake rotors/pads, ew battery, ewer tires (only about 6,000 miles on them), ew transmission mount, armonic balancer was replaced, rand new full rear exhaust. Maybe some things I am forgetting. The manual states that this car can go 6,000 miles between oil changes but I have always changed it sooner, etween 3-4,000 miles. I believe that I changed the air filter not too long ago but on that, cannot remember. For everything else, have full records dating back to when I myself purchased the car. It was my daily driver for years and the most reliable car I have ever owned. I bought it after reading how several people had these cars up to and past 400,000 miles and still going strong. So if you take care of these, hey are built like tanks basically and last forever.
Here are the things that may need work and is why I am not asking as much as I could: I myself would check the back brakes. They squeak and I think they need new pads. Back left window needs motor enclosure (I had it clamped to stay up). FRONT exhaust is loose but works fine. Estimate from the mechanics I trust is $349 on the front exhaust. This doesn't HAVE to be done but it would make the car run quieter. A/C needs coolant recharged. Driver's side door lock tumblers don't work anymore so needs replaced. I never got around to doing that. The front right window button needs replaced but I am ordering that and putting it in myself in the next couple days so that will be fine by the time anyone picks the car up. When I changed the battery, he stereo is asking for the security code now. I used to have it but if I can't find it, ou need to call your local Mercedes dealer. They are who provided it before when I needed it. The powered radio antenna in back doesn't go up. The motor is good but when they fixed the A/C, think somehow they didn't hook the power back up to it. You can replace that with a static antenna if you want. When I checked, here were three aftermarket ones available for this car. There are some metal and paint issues, articularly on the left (driver's) side doors. I tried to get close-up pictures so you can see. The sunroof and trunk paint are quite faded now. I painted over some parts myself a few times (and recently) just to make it look better. The sunroof and trunk were too much for me to do on my own. Just standing and looking at the car, t looks pretty good still for the age in my opinion. As with all of these model of cars, he faux wood on the interior cracks over the years from heat but there are no pieces missing and the door trim, tc. looks good still.
The car always starts right up. Never has failed me even once. In fact, he electrical systems in these are so good that one time, left my parking lights on in the *winter* for I think 3-4 days without realizing it. When I finally did, got in and the car still started. On that note, 124 Mercedes (which this is one) almost always have the "light out" dash indicator illuminated. To my knowledge, his happens because the system was designed to measure the wattage of power going to all exterior lights but after market bulbs mis-report that resulting in the dash indicator lighting. It has been like that since I bought it and I've seen other people with these cars and the same thing happens. I just periodically check my head/tail lights myself.
I have tried to be as thorough in describing this car as I could. PLEASE NOTE that as with any used car, here could be something I don't know about and as a buyer, ou are taking responsibility to make any repairs you see fit. Given the condition of the car and how solid the engine and transmission are, feel I am starting the auction at a very fair price. I am selling the car because I have two cars and am single so I don't need both. This has without question been the most reliable car I have ever owned and I have loved every minute of driving it. It's what made me fall in love with Mercedes Benz! I hope someone else can enjoy it as much as I have!
Car is sold AS-IS and sale is final. There will be a $500 non-refundable deposit due via PayPal within 48 hours of auction close. The remaining balance may be paid within 7 days in several ways. PayPal or cash in-person is preferred. I *will* accept personal or certified checks from a bank but however, iven the recent increase in check fraud, f paying by check, ou MUST WAIT until the check clears the banking system before picking up the vehicle. Same with money orders. This period varies based on the issuing bank and I am not responsible for the waiting period. Some banks can clear checks in a couple days; I have heard of cases when it can take a couple weeks. If in doubt, all and ask your bank first how long they expect a check to clear. Other than if waiting for a check to clear, ou must pay full balance pick up the car within 7 days of end of auction.
