Description for Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 19920000
Hello and thank you for looking at my auction. My name is Joe and I sell vehicles differently than most dealers. Buying your next car or truck through one of my NO RESERVE auctions is the best way to take the games out of your next automotive purchase. I personally road test each vehicle before it is offered for sale so I can give you my first hand opinion of how it runs and drives. Please keep in mind that I am not a mechanic. Each vehicle is represented accurately and honestly to the best of my knowledge and ability. Please take the time to read this entire description as well as our Terms & Conditions carefully BEFORE asking questions or placing a bid. An administrative fee of $149 will be added to the final bid of each auction.
Up for a NO RESERVE auction is a quite rare 1992 Mercedes-Benz 300SL roadster with just 96k original miles. The roadsters with the inline six cylinder engine are very rare and quite desirable. I pounced on this one the second I saw it. This Mercedes has been in my personal collection for roughly two years. I bought it with the intention of picking at the few cosmetic issues it had from age and keeping it. Sadly, ther things always seem to come up and this poor car just sits in my warehouse on a battery tender. I start her every so often just to keep everything in working order but I haven't managed to devote any more time to her than that. I've been thinning out my personal collection over the past year as I slowly convince myself that I don't need all the cars I've been hoarding. Unfortunately, have come to terms with the fact that my straight six R129 would be better off with a caretaker who will love her and actually take her out driving.
I bought this 300SL from a Mercedes-Benz dealer in Eastern PA a few years ago. From what I was told, t was handed down from an elderly man to one of his children who wanted something newer so they took this 300SL to the Mercedes dealer and traded it on something else. For a 22 year old car, he exterior shows very well. The color combination of the wine exterior over tan interior is striking and quite rare. This truly is a beautiful car. The body lines are nice and straight. The hood, oors and trunk all open and close easily. The finish shows a little fading on the hood from age as well as a few smallblemishes here and there as you'd expectwith a vehicle of this age. Overall, he looks good. All of the glass and lenses are intact, lthough the little trim piece around the left headlight is chipped. The alloy wheels show well and are wrapped in a matching set of rubber with deep tread. The tires hold air and feel fine on the road, ut to be safe, 'd replace the tires because I don't know how old they are and I can see dry rot on the side wall of one.In the two years I've had the car, 've never had an issue with them...but I don't drive the car often so tires were kind of at the bottom of my list of concerns. Please take the time to check out each of the photos carefully to see how clean this 300SL looks.
The interior is where most of the odds and ends are that need attention. The door cards are clean and tight but the wood veneers are loose on both doors by the seat switches. The carpets show well for their age. The seats should both be re-covered. The right seat is obviously worse than the left seat but I planned to do them both so they matched. I just never got around to it. The dash is clean. The center veneers show a little age but are clean looking overall. There are a few plastic trim pieces loose or missing here and there, oo. The power windows, ocks, irrors and seats all appear to be working properly. The power top works, oo. The climate control system is fully automatic and also appears to be working properly. I believe the air conditioner worked when I bought the car a few years ago. I tested it while taking these photos and it was not blowing cold so there is most likely a leak in the system somewhere. I'd have it charged and see what happens. The stereo is the original Becker cassette player with an Alpine CD changer in the trunk. You'll need to call the dealer and get the code for the stereo...or just upgrade it. The only other thing I noticed about the interior is that the dash lights do not come on.As with everything else, haven't had the time to look at it. Everything works as it should, t just doesn't light up.
Mechanically, his 300SL appears to be in good running and driving condition. I keep her on a battery tender most of the time so she always starts right up. She idles smoothly and behaves well. I haven't seen anything leaking and the engine doesn't smoke. Her road manners are excellent. The suspension feels tight and well sorted. The steering and brakes feel good, oo. The engine makes good power and feels as smooth as silk...just like a straight six should. There have been no idiot lights on. The engine keeps perfect temperature and excellent oil pressure, oo. The automatic transmission engages smoothly and shifts properly with no issues. Out on the highway, he drives nice and straight with absolutely no complaints. This 300SL is an absolute pleasure to drive. If you are looking for a legitimate low mile classic Mercedes-Benz roadster, his 300SL definitely deserves your consideration. If you look back at all of the Mercedes' that are currently appreciating, ou'll see that they are all either gas or diesel inline six's. If you've ever wished you'd bought a valuable classic before it became untouchable, his is your chance. As long as you don't mind giving her a little bit of attention on the interior, ou can get yourself a low mile example of a rare and desirable car in an equally rare and desirable color combination and have a car you can be proud of for decades to come. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding. I hope the next caretaker of this 300SL will get her out on the road where she belongs and enjoy her the way she is meant to be enjoyed.
