Texas Classic Cars of Dallas Classic & Special Interest Automobile Consignment & Sales 1912 W. Mockingbird Lane Dallas, exas, 5235 Dave 214-213-7072 or Maris at 214-616-2317 Texas Classic Cars of Dallas is proud to showcase this fabulous 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL Convertible. According to our research, here were only 4,032 190SL's produced in the 1956 model year. Between 1955 and 1963,just 26,000 were produced with many of them destined for the United States. This very rare1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL is complete and intact with its original identification plates and stampings throughout. Power comes from the factory twin carbureted M121 4-cylinder enginepaired with the factory 4-speed gearbox. This car was recently obtained from the long time 2nd owner here in Dallas, exas. We have documentation including the original owners & instructional manual along with a few photos of the original owner with the car in 1959. For the previous 30+ years, his has been a Sunday driver, aken out and enjoyed on beautiful days. We have the original twin Solex carburetors and charging generator in boxes, lthough these parts were replaced with upgraded units for reliability sake. An alternator is currently providing the charge. Enjoy our presentation and feel free to contact Dave at 214-213-7072 or Maris at 214-616-2317 with any questions. I do want to mention that this particular 190SL is one of the better driving examples you will find anywhere. According to the owner, he mileage of 67,484 is believed original to the car. Mercedes' 190SL was built alongside its fabled race-bred sibling, he 300SL. The later was the more technologically advanced of the two. The 190SL would make its debut at the New York auto show in 1954 along side the 300SL. The 190SL was conceived for the American marketplace. We hope you enjoy the video presentation of this Mercedes-Benz in action below. Here is the YouTube video of this 190SL Mercedes-Benz on the road - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cntLF3tAh4s SUMMARY OF FEATURES: Graphite Grey Colour Tan Interior M121 4-Cylinder Dual Carbureted Engine 4-Speed Manual Transmission VDO Gauges - 140 Speedometer & Tachometer Color-Keyed 13-Iinch Steel Wheels / Beauty Rings / Wheel Covers & 155/80R13 Tyres Original Identification Plates & Stampings Intact Throughout Black Canvas Soft Top Front & Rear Bumper Guards Chromed Exhaust Tip Original Owner's Manual 4-Wheel-Drum Brakes Windshield Wipers Vintage Dual Tinted Visors Radio Delete Plate The sheetmetal is in remarkable condition considering the cars age. This car retains its original metal throughout.A light duty magnet will adhere to the panels on close inspection with exception of the hood, runklid, nd doors which were constructed in aluminum. The color is the correct Graphite Grey, ppearing to be mostly original with some paint touch-up over the years. Many of our photos were taken at the Dallas Love Field Frontiers of Flight Museum, ocated only minutes from Texas Classic Cars of Dallas' showroom. Be sure to visit the historic Flight Museum if you find yourself in Dallas, exas. The above photographed was taken in 1959. This is the original owner with this '56 Mercedes 190SL. We have several pieces of documentation including the original owner's manual and service manuals. This is the chassis data plate, ocated on the passenger side firewall, ehind the battery. The top numbers read as follows ; 190SL 121042 6502248 On early 190SL's, ou will find the paint code plate located on the driver's side firewall, s seen above on this car. "G" represents Graphite Grey colour. Again, his Mercedes retains all of the original identification plates. The body number is shown above. This is stamped on the driver's side firewall, bove the air inlet hose- 65 01680. This is a manufacturer sequence number used in construction of the vehicle. The body number tag is affixed to the door jamb on 1956 models, his car's plate seen above, 121042 6501680. This number stamp matches the body number stamp on the firewall. The factory M121 SOHC twin carbureted engine is stamped 121 92 650 2282, ts original identification plate also intact and legible, atching the block stamping and seen above. The plate is located on the driver's side of the block and is stamped 6502282. This is believed to be the original engine for this 190SL. It is very close to the chassis number. This is engine 6502282, hile the chassis is 6502248 On the passenger side frame rail just below thevoltage regulator you will find the chassis identification plate. This number is also stamped just above the plate directly in the frame. These number's match each other. The frame is stamped 1210426502248 while the plate reads 121042 6502248 The engine itself is the factory 1.9 litre SOHC inline-4. The original problematic Solex carburetors were removed and boxed up in favor of the updated dual Mikuni carburetors. We have the original Solex carburetors as well, hown in photographs below along with the original generator. The fuel pump has also been replaced, ith the original included. The charging system has been updated with an alternator and Bosch battery. Open the doors to 1956. The interior is largely original. The seat upholstery has been previously redone. The factory gauges are retained and functional as are the turn signals and horn. The factory steering wheel is retained along with the pedals and controls. The dash is in beautiful condition with an aged patina to the original VDOinstrumentation. A wood delete plate resides where the original radio would be. The mileage reading of 67,484 is believed original to the car, lthough we do not have mileage logs to verify this. This car drives out beautifully. There were several subtle changes throughout the '56 model year in 190SL production. In January, rubber cover was fitted to the accelerator pedal (was bare steel). In March of 1956, glovebox door with a lock was now standard equipment and interior door panels were now standardized. These vintage tinted visors are very unique and believed original. I haven't seen another set like them. I believed the door panels are original. The arm rests show wear, ut are intact. The door undersides are intact throughout. The trunk is intact throughout and complete with its delicate factory rubber matting. Under the mat, n the spare tire well on the driver's side, e found the factory tool kit and bag, isplayed above. These will clean up nicely. The convertible top assembly is in very good condition, astening securely in place. This is an honest car that displays nicely. The brightwork is intact throughout this car. The wheels of choice are the factory color-keyed 13-inch steel wheels with original beauty rings and Mercedes Star caps. The paint has a number of imperfections throughout, lthough this car is one of the more solid examples of a 190SL you will find anywhere. We cannot find any majorcorrosion damage anywhere on this car. The flooring/structure is intact throughout, o be expected of a dry climate example. Although every effort is made on our part to accurately asses a vehicle, e highly recommend a professional inspection. Interestingly, he 190SL was based on a shortened monocoque R121 platform, hile the 300SL used a purpose-built tubular space-frame W190 platform. Both the 190SL and 300SL were similar in the fact that each utilized fully independent suspension front to back. The front end consists of double wishbone suspension with swing axles at the rear. The photograph above isa production line moment in the 190SL assembly line, ust a stock photograph. Here is another stock photograph of a factory engine installation in a 190SL, ear unknown. The floorboards are in excellent condition as are the rear trailing arm mounts & jacking points, ommon rust prone areas on the 190SL. This is just a very solid undercarriage. The suspension has been previously rebuilt in the front end. This car tracks straight down the road. The spare tire wells are intact left and right. This is your opportunity to own a very rare and exceptional 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL Convertible.
