Description for Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 1984
Re-listed due to non-paying buyer. Notice: If you are not in the USA, o NOT bid on it.This car is in very good condition for its age and mileage. It has some light scratches but shows very well as-is. Absolutely no rust anywhere. The paint is peeling slightly in one spot on the top of the rear, eft fender, xposing the original paint (see photo). The original York a/c compressor is not hooked up but the system has been converted to R134. It may only need a new belt and some refrigerant but we never bothered since we mainly drive it in the spring and autumn and occasionally on summer evenings/nights.This is an excellent driving car either on the highway or around town. It is not a sports car but a very well engineered, omfortable touring cruiser. We frequently drive it from the southeastern coast of NC to the mountains. It's an all original European model that was never sold in the US and has the original silky smooth double overhead cam, uel injected, nline 6 cylinder engine. The original owner was a US citizen but also a lieutenant colonel in the Royal Canadian Air Force who highly spec'd and ordered the car while stationed in Germany. He returned home and imported the roadster to Baton Rouge, A in 1986. He later moved to Tampa, L in 2006 and after his passing, is wife donated the car to the Salvation Army of Tampa in January 2013 where a friend of ours picked it up and held it until April. So technically we are the 2nd owners but legally the 3rd.A lot of documentation comes with the car. The original owners' copy of the hand-written factory purchase order, he factory change-orders, wo American Express bank check certificates - one for the down payment in March '84 and one for the final delivery payment in August '84. We also have the import letter from 1986 stating the car meets US DOT certification. There are many, any service and repair receipts from January 1994 through my ownership.Since our ownership, e've done a very complete service, ncluding new brakes & rotors, iming chain, heel bearings, hocks, tc. We also installed a new German made canvas top along with new door and window weather seals. Included is a "day cover" for quickly covering the interior without having to put up the convertible top, ew unopened seals for the hard-top, hrome fender trim, nd the digital service manual library on CD-ROM. Also included is the original tool kit, pare tire, nd German first-aid kit. According to the purchase order, he car was ordered without a factory radio but it had a period-correct Blaupunkt AM/FM/Cassette installed that's also included. The R107 chassis Mercedes have been climbing in value and will only keep rising. Don't miss this chance to own this true German classic and please ask any questions.
