Description for Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 1958
A Virginia military man purchased the car new in Germany, or export to the USA. The second owner was Dr. JP Wishau of Milwaukee, st1>WI who purchased the car in the mid 80s, estored it in the late 80s at a cost of approximately $60,000, nd continued to own it until 2010. Dr. Wishau chose this car for restoration because it was completely straight and virtually rust free, nd features a retractable cloth Webasto top. Gerhard Banfi was the coordinator of the complete restorationand did the majority of the work. Much time was spent on the body work in order to obtain proper panel gaps, nd flat panels. It was painted in a single stage acrylic urethane PPG paint. All chrome parts, ncluding the grille shell, umpers, oor handles, elt moldings,fender moldings, tc. were re-chromed. Rocker panel moldings were anodized. Headlight rims and blinkers-NOS
The windshield was replaced.. Cranks, tc were all in excellent condition. The grey leather interior and carpeting was sewn by World Wide Upholstery in California. Interior grey color is a correct color for a 1958 model. New canvas sunroof and headliner was supplied by World Wide in CA as well. All wood panels were stained and coated with 10 coats of urethane. The engine was rebuilt by a Wisconsin performance shop - bored oversize with new pistons, od sized, rank turned, ardened exhaust seats, ew valves and rockers, am shaft etc. Dual carbs rebuilt. Valve covers were polished, nd engine bay detailed. Car has original heater boxes with dual blower motors. All heater control cables and electric controls work fine. Radio was restored by an electronic specialists in California. Gauges are all very nice and work.
Transmission includes new bearings and sync hubs with a new clutch.
Brakes were all rebuilt, nd booster re manned by a company in Colorado.
Correct wheels and had original Michelin molds created correct tires for "58. NOS- hub caps
New stainless steel exhaust. Gas tank was cleaned and lined. Radiator was boiled and painted and, nd new hoses and belts installed.
Receipts for entire restoration, ncluding a receipt for a piece of missing chrome molding that was sourced directly from Stuttgart, re available, nd convey with the car.
The car was purchased in November, 010 by Sergio and Lois Asensio of Lynchburg, st1>Virginia. The car is currently maintained by Danny Bridgeworth of Lynchburg, irginia, ho works exclusively on classic cars as a sideline when he's not at his day job as a nuclear engineer with Areva. Annual state inspections were performed by Crossroads Mercedes of Lynchburg, irginia. The only modifications made to the car since its original restoration were the addition of retractable seatbelts for the front seats and standard seat belts for the back seats. As of Oct, 015, he car has 3,200 miles on the odometer since the engine was re-built.
Car includes original tool set, riginal jack, riginal owner's manual, nd new shop manuals. The car is a true pleasure to drive and has that classic pontoon styling that exemplifies a Mercedes of that era.
