Description for Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 1960
Hello eBay!Up for auction is my beautiful 1960 Mercedes 220S W111 fintail sedan. This is an excellent driver quality car, aving had both the exterior resprayed, he interior redone and the top-end of the engine rebuilt. While not a fully restored concours car, his Mercedes won't be turned away from any shows and still wows people with its condition and classic looks. This particular car has had a loving ownership history, nd it shows.
Bought new in Germany in 1960 by a Colonel stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Italy, his car still has its original bill of sale, uild sheet and temporary German registration from Euro delivery. Imported shortly thereafter to the United States (original 60's Black Plates still on the car) and kept under the care of the Colonel until 1988, hen the car was sold to another Colonel in the armed forces stationed in the San Francisco Bay Area. The car still has the base permits of the old Presidio (now country club) military base in San Francisco affixed to the front and rear bumpers. The car remained in the collection of the Colonel until 2010, hen upon the Colonel's passing the car was purchased by another collector. I am the fourth owner of the vehicle, nd I have all the service and repair records for the last 27 years, ncluding the respray and top-end engine and carburetor rebuild.
The car runs great. The engine has smooth power delivery and the car easily cruises at 70 MPH on the highway. It always receives leadsupplementand octane booster with 91 premium gas. The 4-speed on the column shifts smoothly without any grinding or funny noises out of the transmission. The car is quiet to drive, ith no strange vibrations or whining noises. Brake booster was recently rebuilt, nd the car stops well and straight. All the gauges and dash controls work, xcept for the original VDO clock. Dimmer and foot pump window washer work. All doors shut effortlessly with a solid click. Interior is done in the Euro-market cloth pattern, nd matches very well with the ivory exterior color. Seats are comfortable and well cushioned. The seat belts are adapted from either marine or aviation grade parts, ook period, nd are in excellent condition.
The car does have some rust. There is a small area in the bottom of the tire wells on either side of the trunk that has rusted through and has been treated to halt further progression. There is also some bubbling starting to come through over the passenger side rear fender and on one spot on the driver's side lower rear window (see photos of both areas). The underside of the car looks solid and dry.
I've set a low reserve, o this car will sell. It is a great example of a W111 fintail Mercedes with good history/documentation that can be enjoyed right away and driven until values have risen enough to warrant another restoration. With fintail prices just starting to rise, his is an excellent time to buy in at the low point.
Please note: Be serious about purchasing the car before you place a bid. Any auction winner who does not honor their bid will not only receive negative feedback, ut will also be reported to eBay (they will mark your account for their own blacklisting purposes). So get all your ducks in a row before bidding. I'm serious and honest in my intention to sell, lease be the same to buy. That being said, his Mercedes is being sold AS-IS, ith no warranties of any kind, ncluding that of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. I can provide additional photos and videos upon request. Thank you and good luck!
