Mercedes 240d Rebuilt Engine, Vegetable Oil, SVO, Grease Converted!!

HISTORY: I acquired this car in exchange for a small remodeling of a garage for a friend. They were short on liquidity at the time. I did not need the car nor particularly want it. Therefore. he offered to pay for and install a conversion kit into it only shy the tank and filter. This made it attractive enough for me to agree to do the favor. I have very little experience at all with the car. A very special lady used the car off and on for a year or so until I got a 300d upgrade in good order for her to drive. It has only been driven occasionally for the last year or more to keep things moving or when a pinch hitter was needed. I do know. as I will discuss more below. that the engine came out of another 240d that was cosmetically shot. REBUILT. and installed in this car. It presently has ~approx. 35k on it according to the previous owner. I have no reason to doubt this either through knowledge of his character or the mechanical state of the engine. Note: Due to my lack of intimate knowledge of the car. I will provide all the information I can here and encourage all prospective buyers to ask any questions about it prior to purchase. Once this car is purchased. I will not accept responsibility for any issues that may arise. You decide if it is right for you. INTERIOR CONDITION: This car is in good used condition. The interior upholstery is in good general shape. The only interior component that is compromised is the dash. It has several cracks typical of these cars when they have been unprotected from the sun. All the windows work with the manual cranks. The glass is tinted. All the glass is intact. The gauges are in working order. dome lights work. It has a minor water leak that comes from. I believe. the windshield seal. It drips slowly when rain is heavy. Carpets are in good shape for age. The seats are very comfortable with only some minor wear that I know of. they are still firm and the form is good. Underdash kickboards have been removed. EXTERIOR CONDITION: This car still shines up nicely and is attractive. There are some spots of rust which I have tried to capture in the photos. It is missing the hood badge. Headlight plastic housing is dulled and cracked as is usual with these cars at this age. All jack points are in good shape. no visible rust deterioration as in two pictures above. MECHANICAL CONDITION: I have been impressed. to be honest. with how reliable this car has been. As mentioned above. this is not a car I wanted but it has served well when needed. Indeed. it has saved the day when nicer cars have failed us. It does have a couple of issues that I am aware of. First and foremost. it needs an injection pump rebuild or a replacement. The existing one is functioning reliably at present but no longer provides the service that optimal operation requires. I believe the seals. and etc. . within it are deteriorated from B90 biofuel being run through it for a good portion of its service life. I cannot determine the exact mileage represented by this as the engine was rebuilt ~35k ago and I know for a fact that the pump delivered B90 biofuel before that with the previous owner. As indicated above. I have only owned this car for under 10k of its life. The second mechanical issue is an oil leak from the drain plug. Recently I changed the oil lines as the old ones had been creatively altered for some reason. I. however. did not buy Mercedes lines. I had a hydraulic shop make some 9. 00 psi lines for it. ( I believe this was the number they told me. obviously this exceeds. by a long shot. what is required. I did not order them to meet this number. they just came this way as per basic build). In changing these I performed an oil and filter change and did not have a new drain plug gasket on hand and so I used the old one. This did not work. thus. the leak. VEGETABLE OIL CONVERSION: The vegetable oil conversion only requires a tank and the main dual filter setup to be functional. The kit was installed by former owner who is an expert in biofuels. The kit was one offered by Neoterics Biofuels. a company in Canada. I have included some photos of the main components. and of the hole in rear under trunk for a second tank fill tube. The tank was intended to be made of aluminum to fit in the spare tire slot in trunk. There are several photos above of major components in the conversion kit for those who are familiar. POWERTRAIN: The transmission works reliably. It does soft shift and slip a little until it warms up. Once warmed up it no longer slips. Anyone who knows these cars will know that there is a vacuum modulator on the transmission housing that adjusts the shifting. A simple adjustment of this is usually all that is required. I do not drive the car so I have not done so. CHASSIS: The tires have medium tread. are Toyo brand. I just changed the left rear brake rotor and pads. I would count on the right rear needing the same service. I do not know the condition of the front brakes.
