Description for Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 1969
This 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is finished in Silver Grey Metallic over Black MB Tex and is equipped with the factory 4-speed manual gearbox and correct A/C. This SL has just come out of a long term collection in Florida and was well cared for and maintained over the course of its life. The car shows 47,190 miles on the odo and is believed to be correct. The car wears an older repaint and shows well from about ten feet away. There are some small imperfections in the paint upon close inspection and some dull areas through the doors and lower panels. It appears the car was dismantled when it was painted as there are no signs of overspray. The chrome and bright work on the car show very well with only minimal signs of age. Quite a bit of the rubber trim and gaskets appear to have been replaced fairly recently. The interior shows well with what appears to be original seats and carpets (seats have been re-stuffed) and what appears to be the original wood. The dash top and door panels have been re-done at some point in time and the convertible top has been replaced and shows well. The engine starts right up and runs very smoothly and strong. The car does not smoke under start up or acceleration and shifts smoothly through all of the gears. The clutch feels nice and strong and does not give any signs of slipping or any grinding from the gearbox. The steering feels nice and tight and free from any play or vibrations and the brakes are nice and solid free from any fade. All of the electronics appear to be working and operating as designed including the interior lights, ash lights and all of the exterior lights. There is no rust found on or under the car and the original factory number stamp is found on the hood, onvertible boot and the hardtop. The original weld spots are also present in the front fenders inside the engine bay. The body gaps on the car are very good and tight and the body looks to be accident free. The original spare tire, ool roll, ack and hardtop are all present with the car including the original owners handbook. This is a good solid driver quality 280SL 4-speed that is a very strong running driving car for someone to enjoy or an excellent solid car to do a full restoration on.
