Description for Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 1989
This 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SL is a fully loaded roadster that still delivers famous luxury and performance, even more than 25 years later. These cars were built in an era when engineers ruled Mercedes-Benz, and were built up to a standard, not down to a price. As a result, they're rugged, reliable, comfortable cars that will last virtually forever given proper maintenance, and the experience of driving one is unlike any other. And the funny thing is, most folks don't even realize what a massive bargain these cars are, so you can park it in your driveway and all the neighbors will be abuzz wondering when you won the lottery.By 1989, the last year of R107 SL production, Mercedes pretty much had the SL perfected, and there's definitely something to be said about Mercedes quality; your $65,000 in 1989 purchased one heck of an automobile. The gaps are precise, the doors open and close with precision now that they've been properly exercised, and the paint is glossier and smoother than anything else this side of a Rolls-Royce, especially considering its age. The car's overall condition suggests that this has only been a fair weather cruiser, and as a result it remains in excellent condition with mostly original paint, and all the rubber remains pliable and soft. Dark blue will never go out of style, which can probably be said for the entire car, and thanks to that legendary build quality, you don't have to worry about it wearing out its welcome anytime soon. The gray leather bucket seats were recently re-trimmed in high quality leather that is both durable and comfortable. Showing a nice patina, but no damage, the rest of the interior is inviting and comfortable enough for a cross-country tour. All SLs were strictly two-seaters, with intimate accommodations that make even the passenger feel special, and while there's a rear package shelf, it has been commandeered by a set of powerful speakers for the stereo system. A comprehensive array of gauges keep an eye on the mechanicals, and you're coddled with luxury features like climate control, a powerful Alpine AM/FM/CD stereo, power windows, and beautiful burled walnut trim. The contrasting blue canvas convertible top actually looks fantastic on the blue car, and stows easily under a hard tonneau, and a matching blue hardtop is included. The final evolution of the SL received the biggest, most powerful engine to date, a 5.6 liter SOHC V8. Power delivery is smooth and seamless, with a fat torque curve that moves the roadster with the ease of an electric motor. A pleasant, bubbly idle and a great V8 rumble are the ideal soundtrack, just enough to let you know that there's still some sports car DNA running through its veins. The engine bay in this SL shows signs of meticulous maintenance (tons of receipts are included), and everything works as it should, including the A/C which got a full overhaul in 2011, and the timing chain was recently replaced. The 4-speed automatic clicks through the gears, the suspension is supple without losing its poise, and the steering box, front end, and brakes are recently rebuilt. Those traditional 15-inch Mercedes alloys wear 205/65/15 blackwall radials to keep with the OEM look.Streetside Classics specializes in quality vintage SLs, and this is one of the best-maintained cars we've seen in a long time. With a reasonable price and a very attractive color combination, this is the one to own. Call today!
