Bought the car in San Diego, CA with no rust several years ago. Drove her cross-country to DC-area and have had it garage kept ever since. Primarily been an occasional use car for my 75yo mom. She is no longer driving, so we are trying to down size and make room in our garage so the wife can park inside :)
Be ready to constantly get compliments and asked about the car - almost every trip out, someone stops to ask me about it or compliment me for how clean and nice she is.
It is seriously in GREAT shape. I've owned 5 other W-123/W-126 diesel Benzes, and this is the best of the bunch - and the one I kept the longest. The engine is super tight - pulls hard and fast. Transmission shifts smoothly. No blow-back or smoke. Hums beautifully. Has been regularly serviced by a long-time Mercedes mechanic. My mechanic used to work for Mercedes-Benz Corporate, as a roadside assistance roving mechanic in the 1980's & 1990's. So he knows these cars very well. He has told me that this one is in the top tier condition - specifically with regard to engine - that he sees. I would be happy to give prospective buyer my mechanic's contact and company name - so you can see that he is big and reputable in the area - and can ask him about the service history - including some major expenses I spent to get and keep her in top shape over the years. No short cuts.
Locks work, A/C works, radio and antenna work. Super clean inside and out. There are some minor paint dings as would be normal for a car this age, but much better than average. The one item that is not working is the left passenger window. The regulator/motor spins but needs a new arm because there is a tooth missing in the gear, causing it to jump. Easy and cheap fix - just haven't had time to do.
This has been kept in tip top shape. Cannot think of anything else it needs or I would do with it today if I were the new owner. I would encourage inspections so you can see for yourself how great this is for a 35 year old car! One of the earliest S-classes - still oozes luxury. Power windows, seats, locks, sunroof. Upgraded stereo.
