Description for Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 1985
This is a 1985 Mercedes Benz 300CD turbo diesel coupe. This is the last year for the 300CD and it offers many improvements over the earlier years. most notably the 2. 88 rear end ratio which is better for fuel mileage. The odometer stopped about a year ago at 300. 00 miles. so I am approximating the actual miles around 305. 00. I have only owned the car for a little under three years and have always performed timely maintenance and the inside of the driver's door is full of the little maintenance stickers that the dealer puts on. so I believe this car has been well taken care of mechanically for its entire life. I had this car checked out by Werner's Garage in Fort Wayne. IN about a month ago. They are a small shop dedicated to German automobiles. Most importantly. they gave the engine and transmission a clean bill of health. but they also provided the following list of items (I also noted how each item was addressed):1. Left front caliper dragging - caliper replaced2. Cracks in brake hoses - all 4 hoses replaced3. Center support bushing and bearing need replaced - doneThey also recommended brake fluid flush. transmission flush and filter change. and valve adjustment. All of which were completed. Here is a full list of items completed over the past year:Monarck Fuel Injectors installedOil Cooler lines replacedHood insulation padThermostat replacementglow plugs chambers reamed / cleaned and glow plugs replacedPower Steering filter replaced and fluid flush Monovalve replacementMotor and transmission mounts replacedMisc. engine gasketsEngine does not drip any oil. Injectors do not leak fuel. AC and heat. cruise control. and front 2 windows work perfectly. The sunroof and rear 2 windows work but are a little sluggish. Power antenna is present but does not work--the car did not have a radio when I purchased it. so I never tried to trouble shoot the antenna--it could be something very simple. Bridgestone Insignia tires look great and have only a few thousand miles on them. Original paint looks great and has a lot of life left but could use a buff/shine. There are just a couple spots on the body that could use some attention. On the hood there are two spots about the size of a quarter that don't look like typical rust. but more like someone might have dripped brake fluid. The second spot is under the passenger rear quarter panel trim piece--the paint is flaking off in a few areas. Again. this does not appear to be cancerous rust. but more a result of chipped/flaking paint that allowed for corrosion. I tried to zoom in on these areas in the photos. The rear bumper rubber is pulling free in a few places and probably needs replaced. The trunk lock assembly is missing but the latch still works and trunk can easily be opened by hand. All lights work as expected. The interior is in good shape and complete minus the radio. The MB-Tex front seats are nearly perfect. not sagging. and actually very comfortable. The arm rest is worn and missing material on top. The dash has a couple vertical cracks but is currently covered with a fitted cover. The carpets could use a deep clean but are serviceable. The top of the rear seat has considerable cracking from years in the sun. The headliner just under the sunroof has a hole about the size of a fist--this is just the piece that slides back with the sunroof and can be replaced easily without needing an entire new headliner. This was an original California car and has survived amazingly well. The undercarriage is still protected by the original undercoating with no signs of rust. The car starts flawlessly in hot and cold weather. idles smoothly. passes the oil fill cap 'blow by' test. shifts and brakes perfectly. and shuts off instantly. No clunks. squeaks. knocks. shakes. squeals. or smoke. I have been driving this car to and from work most days for the past 3 years. Extremely fun. smooth. and comfortable to drive and will provide many more years of enjoyment. Title is cleanI have a Carfax report and it is clean. but shows nothing before 1999. The vehicle is sold as is and has no warranty. I am happy to assist with shipping. but the buyer is responsible for the cost. Deposit of $500 using PayPal is due within 24 hours and full payment within seven business days. I'm happy to store for a reasonable time if the car is paid for in full.
