Description for Mercedes-Benz G-Class 1993
1993 G350DT SuperturboDiesel - This Vin# WDB46332117093375 is not recognized by Ebay since it began its life abroad and was federalized as noted below.
Holy Grail G: One of very fewlegallyUS imported 463 seriesdieselG-wagens. A Sabertoothed Tiger in Wolfs clothing. Engine upgraded to “superturbodiesel” with a reliable 400 hp and gobs of torque, all Mercedes-Benz. Full leather interior and typical Mercedes luxury appointments are thoroughly modern, yet are analog and not prone to the electronic pitfalls which plague current models. Exterior upgrades to current styling and lighting complete the impression. However, what lies beneath the newly painted exterior sets this G apart from the crowd. A recently rebuilt OM606 three liter, 24 valve engine replaces the competent, but unexciting 3.5 liter 12 valve. Utilizing a modified mechanical injection pump, significantly larger turbocharger, large intercooler, with factory-appearing plumbing results in impressive horsepower, torque, and fuel economy gains, while allowing this diesel to run as a daily driver with current gasoline powered siblings without surrendering its rabid DNA.
The original W460 G-Wagen went on sale for the 1979 model year. In September 1989, Mercedes-Benz introduced the new W463 model. The W463 (which is the current model,) had become the perfect combination of excellent off-road behavior and Mercedes comfort. The important innovations were a completely new designed interior, permanent four-wheel-drive, ABS, three difflocks as standard fittings and an external facelift. Mercedes began importing 463 G-Wagens in 2002 but to date has never offered a diesel-powered G in the United States.
It is virtually impossible to find a legally imported diesel 463 series gwagen in the USA; to my knowledge there are no more than 15. The diesel gwagens on the market are usually the earlier 460 series vehicles, pure military-spec trucks in every sense-not something one would commonly choose as a “daily driver.” The conversion to “superturbodiesel,” while somewhat common in Europe, is a relative rarity in the US due to the limited number of OM606 engines imported to the US as turbocharged applications (with beefier bottom ends, better oiling, etc.) Hence, this G-wagen represents the epitome of a multi-purpose, high powered, bullet-proof diesel.
This G wagen was exported from Stuttgart Germany in late 1999 with 112,000kms (70K mi). In early 2000, it was properly imported to the US by JK Technologies of Baltimore MD which performed formal federalization. I purchased this truck in 2007 with 116k miles. The previous owner from whom I purchased the G used it as his Sunday driver. There are currently 240,071 miles on the odometer and gradually increasing as used daily.

The Good: This vehicle has never been in an accident. It has NO rust, surface or other. This G-wagen drives and stops better than when new. It has always been maintained and new parts installed at the earliest signs of fatigue.
The Great: I have been upgrading/restoring this as I drive it. This truck does not shake or vibrate. Very little interior noise. Most interior trim parts have been replaced / updated. The AC blows cold, the heater blows hot. I have seen 25 mpg when I can restrain myself.
The Rest: A quick perusal of www.superturbodiesel.com, the various YouTube entries from dieselpumpuk and dieselmeken:

will demonstrate the capabilities of the Mercedes Benz OM606 engine and, in particular, the OM606.964. While ubiquitous in Europe, that engine was only imported to the US by Mercedes Benz for two years, 1998 and 1999, in the E class in turbo-diesel form, which included increased bottom end strength, better oiling, etc., while incorporating the heavy-breathing, 24 valve head design. The “superturbodiesel” modifications take advantage of the bullet-proof engine. From there, modifications of the original Fuel Injection pump provide greater fuel flow, and the addition of both larger turbocharger/intercooler and larger exhaust allow for reliable 750-900 horsepower if desired. This build involved a purposeful target of 400 horsepower while maintaining daily-driver reliability, driveability, and fuel conservation. The mechanical injection pump can support horsepower of well over 500. Likewise, the custom-fit (inside front bumper) intercooler will support greater flow than is presently called upon. The choice of turbocharger allows for quick-spooling and limited overall boost, creating what is the ideal “sweet spot” for all-around use. The trip to the mountains is as easy as a trip to the market, while the G climbs like the proverbial mountain goat. A simple turbo-change would net further overall horsepower gains and, if that is the goal, just watch the YouTube videos, order a different turbo, spend a few hours and voila. Right now, this G outruns most others, does great on fuel for a g-wagen, and for those concerned about the future, is ANALOG. Which means that it is immune to magnetic pulse, the car-TASER, and it will run when all others have died. It can run on pump diesel, bio-diesel, or straight vegetable oil. Note the license plate: ”exit strategy.”
100K miles of R&D went into this build. This is a well-sorted, totally upgraded superturbodiesel G. All of the chosen upgrades work together intentionally and harmoniously. This the G wagen that Mercedes could have built themselves since all but turbo & Intercooler are OEM components.
