Description for Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 1971
1971 Mercedes Benz 300SEL 6.3
Chassis No: 10901812005155
'71 Mercedes Benz 300SEL 6.3 in white with a gold (tan) leather interior.
Excellent color combination. Low miles. Complete and original car with lots of potential.
Very collectible.
Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3 is considered the genesis of the large luxury Sports Sedan segment and a coveted model among Mercedes-Benz collectors. It combines the typical German engineering, build quality, and performance of their sports cars with the luxury and comfort of their touring sedans. The 300SEL 6.3 was created by fitting Mercedes' excellent, 300hp/434 ft/pds of torque, 6.3 liter V8 with Bosch fuel injection from their 600 and 600 Pullman series, into the standard 300SEL body, thus creating an amazing combination of performance and luxury. Mercedes-Benz also added larger wheels, a four-speed automatic transmission, upgraded power four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, and four-wheel independent suspension; which included air suspension with adjustable ride height. Many other extra features were included as standard items, such as air conditioning, radio, leather upholstery, power steering, and power windows. This new combination allowed the 300SEL 6.3 to accelerate from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and to reach speeds of almost 140 mph while also maintaining stellar handling and comfort; which hadn't been seen by the automotive world in a Sports Sedan to date. The 300SEL 6.3 was not inexpensive by any standards, as it cost more than double that of the new Porsche 911S, but it's well rounded performance made it the sedan to have in 1971. Its high cost also contributed to its low production numbers with only limited numbers of units being produced and many of those cars being lost to use, rust, and the elements over the years. Of those cars produced, only fraction of them made it to the United States. That make them ultra rare collectors. The 300SEL 6.3 was considered to be one of the most sophisticated cars of its time, and still today it has a devoted following in the automotive collector car world. It is the perfect combination of performance and luxury.
Arguably one of Mercedes most sought after classic vehicles, this 6.3 features the 6.3 liter V8 engine from the Mercedes Pullman 600 limousines. It has massive power, when introduced it was the highest performance sedan ever made. This vehicle's engine is as good as new, bulletproof and can last forever.
Description:
The interior is in very good condition and all original, the wood around the dash is in decent shape. The engine runs great and the sophisticated air suspension lifts the car up quickly. The car was just fitted with all four new air bags.
All parts original, great condition! A very good example of this rare model, which is very hard to find. Rarely a nicer one comes on the market.
A great previously owned, smoke-free automobile. One owner, original BC car that was bought by his owner 46 years ago. I acquired it recently. Its 88 years old owner decided to finally quit driving and sell his bellowed Mercedes, he had for 46 years, since new. Has not been driven long-distances last several years, but started all this time in regular intervals. As a result this 46yr old car starts on the first key. Periodically I would start and let the car idle to operating temperature. The car was only started and driven periodic for short distance. Keep in mind that this is a 46 year old car so has various things with it---this isn’t showroom---but it’s very nice. Some warts include scratches on the paint that aren’t visible in the pictures, etc.
The car is completely original and still shows very well. It can be driven or restored. This is a survivor that hasn't received any restoration work. Minimal rust. It doesn’t warrant restoration, it just needed "detail' work to make it more cosmetically appealing, but If decision is to restore the car, it would be worthwhile as this car is good mechanically, with beautifully and smooth running engine. It could easily be taken to the next condition level with a few very minor cosmetic improvements. In terms of mechanical performance, it is about as good as you are likely to find, at any price. The transmission shifts through all the gears crisply/firmly. All of the chrome is in very good condition. The car displayed no signs of structural rust at all, just some surface bubbling in some spots (sun roof for example). Structural rust free. Overall, this vehicle's exterior is clean. The doors, bonnet and boot lid all exhibit factory perfect shut lines, and all close with a resounding clunk that is indicative of the ultra high build quality these cars are famous for. The engine runs quietly, idles smoothly and pulls like a train. The interior is clean and in great condition. This car has the desirable sunroof option. Original example, excellent original car with lots of potential..
The interior is completely original and the leather is in amazing shape for its age. The tan (gold) leather interior is in truly remarkable condition for its age. The leather has a beautiful patina and the cabin has a wonderfully luxurious, gently worn feel to it. The dash pad is flawless with no cracks. The headliner is very good. All of the door panels are in very decent condition showing almost no signs of wear. All seat are nice without cracks or splits on them. The trunk area is nice and clean. No rust in the typical wheel well spots in the trunk.
Note: Two Door Trims on the left side doors are Not Missing. It's just off the car. An original Becker radio is included in the sale. A later model Blaupunkt is currently installed. Genuine Mercedes Technical Service Manual that covers this car is included. It is about two inches thick and pretty comprehensive.
