Description for Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 1970
HERE IT IS! I recently purchased this in Florida and drove it 1800 miles to South Dakota (No heat, no A/C, no radio and no cruise). I was told that it came from Arizona to Florida and sat in an elderly gentleman's garage for many years. As an "old car guy", I find it miraculous that this car hasn't been "restored". Original paint. Original interior is unbelievable. Carpet, trunk liner and radio are missing but otherwise 100% complete. My trip included contact with an orange highway cone and I have an original right-front headlight bezel replacement enroute. The right-rear tail light lens needs replacement but is still useable. I had the car serviced before the trip including synthetic oil and differential fluid change with a new set of tires. The peculiar configuration of the "build" appears to include the 2.8L engine with factory A/C and no side molding. Crank windows (drivers window regulator needs attention but can be "helped" up and down. The two "holes" in the dash are for the radio speaker control (included) and the glove box lock (missing). Someone did a cover for the package shelf and the dash center but I haven't looked beneath them. The tremendous value of this vehicle is that it is perfectly straight and rust-free...PERFECTLY! The front fenders have a few chips (see pictures) and appear as if some kid stood on them with the slightest of dents which could be easily removed by my "Paintless" dent guy. Someone waxed the front fenders long ago and then quit. If Mercedes applied the black coating (I think they did), the body is priceless. If Mercedes did not apply the black coating, it was professionally done. The underneath is as clean and original as the top of the car with maybe newer exhaust. The engine has a misfire at idle but cruises all day effortlessly at 65. I had it up to 80 mph for just a mile or two but I think it would go 100. I used 1/2 quart of oil in the 1800 mile trip. Original Solex carburetors were replaced long ago with dual Webbers which function properly. The transmission appears to have been recently rebuilt or serviced and is clean as a whistle. I have not persued the lack of heat or A/C but the blower functions and the mechanic in Florida said the A/C compressor works. Hoses, belts, and weatherstripping all good (trunk seal has chips) with NO ROT! This car may never have gotten wet. Dash lights don't light but I drove all night and headlights, brake lights and tail lights work as designed. Steers and drives effortlessly with no vibration or "wander". It "floats" a bit like it needs shocks but safe enough when you get used to it. Odometer reads 77,095 but your guess is as good as mine. The interior speaks volumes. The "speed alert" goes off and the starter doesn't always engage in the cooler SD weather but worked fine until I got North of Kansas City. It was my intention to make this my daily driver but it should be professionally done back to 100% functional original. If nobody bids, I will fix it myself and ask twice as much. I havent even washed it. Clean SD title will be released upon completed transfer of payment. Buyer to arrange pickup or you can drive it like I did. This has only been in my posession for a week and this is the only time I will offer it for sale. You will never find another like it. $500 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours and low-feedback bids without prior approval will be canceled. Credit cards via Pay Pal. Check my OTHER AUCTIONS for more cool stuff! Thanks for viewing! UPDATE! I washed it and found a small easy-fix "ding" on the bottom of the driver's door and I can see where the rear bumper was "bumped" when the L/R tail light was broken. THE NEW R/F HEADLIGHT BEZEL AND TURN ASSEMBLY IS INSTALLED AND IT'S PERFECT!
