Or for those cool nights. slip the top up or slide the beautiful hardtop on and cruise out in the darkness in quiet and comfort. Background: Let me begin with a little background. When the original owner ordered this car. he truly had an eye for what a roadster should be: a quintessentially beautiful color draped handsomely over a classic. rich. inviting interior. The 300SL was ordered Brilliant Silver Metallic. a direct homage to the Mercedes Silver Arrow race cars of the early 1900s. It was paired with a black leather interior that makes for a classically beautiful color combination. All the better of a color combo when you think about the original silver 300SL Gullwings and what they have meant to the car world! This is THE color and engine combo! This car was originally bought in Southern California and has spent its whole life in this dry. temperate climate! It was serviced most of its warranty life at Mercedes of Beverly Hills and at some of the most trusted Mercedes mechanics in the Southern California area afterwards. The Condition and Service: This car has been maintained and serviced to match its miles! There has been almost $4. 00 in RECENT retail service. maintenance. and restoration. Let's quickly address the elephant in the room. why buy the 6 cylinder when you can buy the V8? Simple! Every reason! To start the straight 6 engine is very smooth and not down on power at all! Secondly. the 300SL's 6 cylinder engine is easier. more reliable. cheaper powerplant to drive and maintain! Unless you have a very leaded foot. the 300SL delivers plenty of power. without the headaches! And if the badge means something to you at the local Starbucks. take note - the 300SL badge from the trunk lid has been removed! Tell people it has a jet turbine under the hood if it gets your latte faster ;)Let’s dive into the services! Let’s start on the engine and drivetrain: This engine has VERY LOW MILES (less than 3. 00 a year). only 68. 00 miles appear on the odometer. The engine is very healthy and has loads of smooth power! -67. 00 MILE SERVICE As part of the preventive service schedule. this 300SL just received its 67. 00 mile service which included the following: -Brake test. parking brake check -Check warning indicator lights and horn -Inspect headlamps and exterior lamp -Inspect/test windshield wiper washer system -Inspect Seatbelts for damage -Lubricate door hinges -Lubricate door locks -Check brake pad/disk thickness. check condition of disks -Inspect condition. routing. leaks. of components. lines and hoses -Check and correct rear axle fluid level -Check front axle ball joints -Check steering play -Retighten steering gear bolts -Inspect parking brake cables -Inspect condition. routing. leaks. of components. lines and hoses -Engine oil and filter change -Check condition and tension of belt -Check and adjust engine coolant level and protection -Check and adjust automatic transmission fluid level -Check and adjust brake fluid level -Check and adjust power steering fluid level -Check and adjust AC refrigerant charge -Check and adjust battery electrolyte -Check and adjust spare tire pressure -ENGINE and BLOCKBRAND NEW front camshaft seal! Runs smooth!! -RADIATORThe radiator was flushed and cleaned in order to keep maximum flow and keep this beauty nice and cool. The temp needle NEVER moves past normal even with the AC on and in traffic. -BATTERYCranks hard and fast everytime!-OILBRAND NEW oil and filter!-FUELBRAND NEW fuel accumulator! Known to leak over time with MB and cause longer cranking times while hot this has been replaced with a brand new unit!-AIR FILTERBRAND NEW air filter!-DIFFERENTIALSNew gear oil in the diff!-CATALYTIC CONVERTORS No scents or rattles! -ENGINE BAYCheck out the overall cleanliness of the engine bay! This is not a steam clean special. This is a labor of love. A consistent cleaning to keep things looking great. Lets move to the suspension and brakes: -BRAKES As mentioned. BRAND NEW OEM front brake pads and rotors. Also brand new brake pad sensors. The braking system is controlled. powerful and stable. It feels great!. -SHOCKS Great feeling OEM shocks. They are soft on bumps and tight in corners. The car handles wonderfully! -STEERING The steering is tight and has no excess play as you may find in many older Mercedes. Let’s continue to the exterior: -PAINT The paint is very nice! It is a 7+/8- out of 10 easily. Shiny. beautiful Brilliant Silver Metaillic paint was recently polished. finished and waxed by a highly acclaimed detailer here in LA. It looks FANTASTIC. CLEAN and CLEAR CarFax. NO ACCIDENTS. There are few very minor dings and flaws which are very hard to see in pics and in person. There are some minor scuff marks on the passenger side bumper and small ding/crease below the gas filler lid. A very small couple scuffs on the drivers door and few chips/paint flaws on the rear bumper. None are very noticeable and in this humble opinion do not take away from the beauty of the car at all! Most not noticeable unless someone says "Hey look right there!". Remember this is a near 24 year old car with totally original paint. there may be some minor scratches. wear etc. but they are well below any expectation level for MBs or cars of this year. This has been a dry SoCal car its whole life too! That means no rust lurking under the surface ready to pop up and ruin your super rare paint! If there was a place to buy ANY Mercedes. it is dry. warm SoCal. No rain and no road salt! -TIRES The tires are in nice shape with 60%+ tread! No leaks! They are a little older and make a little road noise. but still in quote good shape and do not distract from the ride! -WHEELS The wheels are in nice shape with a great shine to them! They are AMG style wheels that pair with the car absolutely wonderfully! They have only minor flaws and some light curb rash. At total full lock they can rub the plastic fender liner at times because they are slightly wider then stock. but typically that only will happen during a three point turn or a very tight parking spot. Nothing major just a slight touch to the plastic. -GLASS Not to let a pebble defeat this car. the windshield has not a chip and the side glass is clear and smooth. The hardtop glass is in excellent shape as well. -BODY There is not a drop of rust on this Southern California car! Free of dust. dirt. rust or water!-CONVERTIBLE TOP The Black convertible top is in nice shape. goes up and down with a push of a button and drops the windows correctly. The automatic latches work front and rear! No tears in the black canvas and seals tight around the header and decklid. The rear plastic windows are in nice shape with no major flaws. They do have some very minor 1/4"-1/2" or so minor bends lines/cracks where the window folds just where the window meets the top canvas - not straight across Nothing major. nor something that would concern a wet weather climate owner much. Especially with the OEM hardtop coming with the car! I would rate the top a 7 out of 10 because of the little window flaws. but overall. a nice top. I did not have a fellow to help me lift off the hardtop. but I will edit the ad mid week to specifically show upclose pics of the top! -HARDTOP Included with the sale is the original hardtop. The paint is very nice shape and the alcantara roofliner is equally a 9 out of 10. This is a wonderful addition to the car and great for those cool weeks in the fall if you prefer a less open air experience. Onto the cabin: -SEATS The Black leather seats are fantastic!!! They are incredibly supportive with all power seat functions on both seats working perfectly. The leather is soft and buttery and the foam and the springs are supportive with no signs of fatigue. Only the slightest of wear can be seen on these wonderful seats and they have been recently cleaned and conditioned. There is a very minor split on the drivers seat that is somewhat hard to ever see. It is on the left side bolster on the inside face. When you open the door you cant see it. When you sit in it. you cant see it. You have to put your head at the steering wheel and then turn towards the seat to see it. Its so unnoticeable it took me weeks to even know it had a little split in the first place! And it is not continuing to split. it was a little wear through from the older gentleman who owned the car sliding in and out and rubbing against the seat. Very minor wear at best! -DOOR PANELS The door panels look fantastic! -CARPET Gorgeous carpet in the car. The floors. package shelf and trunk all boast incredible cleanliness and quality and look the part of a brand new car. -POWER LOCKS All doors lock and unlock with central locking function! The remote entry key works perfectly! The door handles have a little red and green light hidden in the black plastic which lights as it should to confirm locking and unlocking from a distance since the locking mechanism is so quiet! -POWER WINDOWS The window guides and motors work smooth and quickly! -SEAT BELTS -The belts are in great shape with no frays! -RADIO/CASSETTE The OEM radio has been replaced with a brand new Sony CD/MP3/USB radio! -AC/HEATBRAND NEW AC service port. R134 freon and dye! The AC is arctic cold and Heat is earth core hot! Cold AC is a treat on these cars and this one was just fully serviced and works flawlessly! -MIRRORS Power mirror works perfectly! -WOOD Very nice wood on the console and dash! -STEERING WHEEL The leather is very nice. no tears. split seams or issues! Smooth and buttery. -TRUNK The trunk offers a clean carpet and no issues! The ExperienceDriving this 300SL is fantastic. It is Lexus quiet inside. pulls and handles like a sports car and is as comfortable as a Rolls Royce. Its got all the power it had from the factory an then some. and from even a little gas is torquey and responsive. I hope you can tell by my long ad that this car is a great pre-owned and beautiful low miles Mercedes. There are other 300SL. but VERY FEW 300SL with this few of miles out there still. Remember. Mercedes take a little extra care and feeding. so a MB with 40k miles with questionable. unknown or poor service history is worth about as much as a Slurpee if you add up all the service that will need to be done to make it a reliable. beautiful. solid car again. Don't spend big money on a car from a "turn-em-and-burn-em" style dealer when all they do to promote the car is say a few things they think people like to hear. As you may tell from my ad. I know the care that these cars need and the details that make them tier 1. from a tier 2 or worse and I hope to have addressed them to those of you that know as well. If an ad says "Low miles and well cared for" Ask questions! If you don't get thorough. well addressed answers. start planning more money and more aspirin. This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION! If you were to add up all of the recent items in this car. you would find well over $4k in recent retail scheduled and preventive service and restoration alone. This car is ready to go live another 68k++ miles of beautiful. reliable. enjoyed life in your hands.
