1979 Mercedes Benz 6.9
This ‘79 MBZ 400-series has been restored. I’m a collector, and once I bought this Porsche Turbo from San Diego, so I painted it, and I loved the color so much I painted three other collector’s cars the same color. I don’t know what the paint code is, but you can see it’s beautiful. Actually, I can show you the original color of this MBZ, and you can see the difference yourself. This car has only 59,855 actual miles. Back in the day this was a “banker’s hot-road”. There were approximately 1,800 of these sold in the US. It featured a massive 6.9 fuel injection gasoline engine and had fully hydraulic suspension that allowed the car to achieve an unbelievable ride, and it still does today. This Mercedes was originally the American version, but I converted it to European version with European hard-to-find bumpers, also with a front spoiler that goes on the bottom of the AMG spoiler. It’s a very unique looking car and gets lots of attention. It’s got great paint job, Prime Time Body Shop did the work about 7 months ago. I was going to keep it but decided to sell it since I’m selling all my collection, so it is your chance to own this low mileage car!
The vehicle comes with the original factory price sticker of $50,190.
Mechanical
This Mercedes always starts with ease and runs just fine. I had my mechanic go over the car, so everything works fine. Since I had bought it from a collector, it has always been well-kept. It produces massive power and 4-wheel power disc brake system is excelent. The previous owner replaced the rear leveling valve (front valve is in good condition), all five accumulator balls, and one hydraulic hose. The hydraulic system works great with leverage on the dash. It goes up and down, so however you want the car to sit, it does that way, you want it low - it sits low, you want it up - it sits up. The vacuum hoses have been replaced, no leaks. Exhaust is great. Central locking works just fine. AC blows ice-cold, all power windows work fine, sunroof works good. This engine is cool even in a 100 degrees weather, and runs strong, the radiator works fine. Also the steering box has been replaced by the previous owner, and it works great.
Exterior
The original color was metallic Milan Brown, right now it has my Porsche Turbo color and looks amazing. I left the door jambs and engine bay to the original color just in case somebody wants to change it back - it won’t show from outside, and the interior is almost the same color, you can’t even tell the difference when you open the door between the jamb and exterior. The engine bay is very complete. Also, for six months I was looking for older Loriner wheels, that I always wanted to have on these cars, and finally found them. I’d rather keep those wheels, unless the full price is paid for the vehicle, because just the wheels cost is $5,000 I can put the original wheels and deduct $4000 frome the price. I recently refurbished them. This car has got brand new Falcon tires; it rides smoothly.
This car has never been in accidents. It’s a laser straight car. The only negative thing is that once it was sitting so low, and then I started it and so I got the front fender scratched, but I have extra paint, you can paint it, though really no need to, since you can only see it if you look really closely. The car has always been garage-kept, in a rust-free condition.
Interior
The interior is full “tobacco brown” leather. It has a very minor hairline crack on the dash and one spot on the headliner on the driver’s side, but nothing serious; overall it’s just great! Leather is in fantastic condition for its age. It has the original brown sisal floor mats that are great. All gauges work as they should. A new windshield gasket has been installed. The headliner and door panels are in great shape.
