1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Call 440-914-0000 or email sales@mcgohio. com 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Factory four speed car Factory air conditioning car 100% Rust free. recent quality repaint An EXCELLENT driving car New wood dash trim An attractive. appreciating classic! If this 280SL was simply a great collectible. in stately colors. it'd be a winner. For the enthusiast. that's enough. but for the collector this car has what you're looking for--ALL of the original paperwork and manual sets. and a four speed transmission. Rare in the US. that gearbox puts this SL at the front of the class. First. we just had to drive this car. It's great looking and we wanted to know how it felt 40 years after its debut. It's amazing. The body structure held no squeaks or rattles. the steering and brakes were spot-on and the engine not only made good power it made great noise. The seats. soft and squishy while stationary. are perfect on the road. The transmission shifted up and down flawlessly with neither noises or objections. This is a fly-in-and-drive-home kind of car. A couple of us here might even drop it off for you. just to spend more time behind the wheel! Look at the manuals. There's the original owner's manual jacket. all Becker stereo information (operator's manual. station guide. repair locations. wiring diagram and circuit diagrams) in their original pouches. the booklet and key for the locking Hirshmann antenna. roadster top instruction card. seat belt guide. worldwide service locations (with maps. US dealer locator. M-B accessories guide. Frigiking A/C operator's manual. full parts manual with exploded component diagrams. and a bottle of touch-up paint. As cool as that stuff is. it's insignificant compared to this next batch. Try on the original service booklet (with service items indicated done in the car's early days. the original. punched warranty booklet. the original Protect-O-Plate. the original New Jersey inspection notice card. and the original build sheet! The car was repainted in 2007. and we have receipts for the materials. The finish is very nice and factory correct. Chrome pieces from bumper to bumper were redone. and the aluminum trim is in very nice and unrestored original condition aside from an NOS Mercedes front grille and center section. a pair of new Bosch headlamp trim rings/lights. upgraded H4 headlamps and the set of European-made lower rocker moldings. Pirelli P500 tires are at all four corners and show moderate but even wear: This car was enjoyed but not abused. and the suspension and steering are in excellent condition. All of the lights work as they should. and all lenses are clear. The convertible top is likewise in very nice condition. matching the brown exterior and made of German Haartz cloth as original. Underneath. a newer stainless steel exhaust is found. as well as a suspension that's been fully maintained. The floor pans are rust free and clean. covered in their original undercoating. In the trunk. the walls. floors and underside of the decklid are correctly satin black. covering rust free metal. The proper rubber floor mat is there. as is the spare and the often-lost toolkit. You'll also notice a Pioneer CD changer: It's remotely accessed from the cabin and augments the original Becker Europa stereo. Inside. very nice upholstery takes center stage. allowing you great access to the full VDO instrumentation. the well-placed pedals. the stereo radio and the Frigiking A/C unit. The air conditioning was recently serviced and converted to R134a. and works as new. You'll hold onto a beautiful Nardi wheel. steer through power steering. have powerful four-wheel disc brakes at your disposal and take off with the mechanical injected 2. 8 liter straight six. And though it looks delicate. the shifter has no trouble finding the right gear in the restored gearbox below. We replaced the wood dash trim with brand new. rounding out a very clean cabin. If you're a technically minded person. you're going to love staring at the smooth-running engine. A Bosch mechanical injection pump. compensation valves and switches. lines and hoses running everywhere--it looks alien despite its rock-solid reliability. It's powerful for its size. as well: It would take car manufacturers into the 1990's to consistently have a sub-three liter engine with 180hp and excellent road manners. We've replaced the fluids. belts. hoses and spark plugs for reliability and the firewall insulation pad and other bits like the washer reservoir for cosmetics. Classic lines. extensive service records. rare paperwork and the even rarer four speed make this Mercedes one to own. At the Motor Car Group. we're enthusiasts first. We want you to enjoy your new car from the minute it's delivered and the trailer door drops. Before a car leaves our shop. it's gone through comprehensively. both visually and mechanically. We do more than just kick the tires. though: We fill your tires with nitrogen. road test (if the weather permits us here in Cleveland!) and clean it inside and out.
