This 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190SL Roadster presents beautifully in a classic black exterior with a tan leather interior and black canvas top. First displayed to the public as a prototype at the New York Auto Show in 1954, The 190SL was bestowed with admiration and praise for its gorgeous body design. Although it was referred to as a roadster, the 190SL was far more sophisticated than its British rivals, and it was fitted with such amenities as wind-up side windows, high-quality leather seats with multi adjustability and the choice of an optional hardtop and a premium sound system. Although the 190SL cost half as much as its sibling 300SL, it was by no means an inexpensive car in its day. It was priced comparably to that of a Porsche 356 Cabriolet, and the machine catered to the same demographic who appreciated Teutonic engineering and craftsmanship clothed in a stylish-and-sporty body shape. a 1,900cc inline 4-cylinder engine fitted with twin 2-barrel side-draft carburetors, it produced 120 HP. The transmission was a synchromesh 4-speed manual. The front suspension was of double-wishbone design, and the rear suspension featured a swing-axle arrangement. Mercedes-Benz already had a reputation for quality that was burned into the psyche of the American buying public, and the 190SL did not disappoint with its reliability, durabilityand longevity. The build quality on this series of Mercedes-Benz wasworld classand represented the pinnacle of craftsmanship and material selectionover allthe cars at this specific price point during the era. For these reasons, the 190SL has experienced a tremendous resurgence in its popularity and restoration incentive. This 190SL comes well-equipped with VDO gauges, a period-correct radio, in-dash clock, ivory steering wheel and color-matched hubcaps with trim rings.
