1991 Mercedes Benz 500SL

A classic from the start, this 500SL remains almost perfect after 27 years of loving care. Purchased new for more than $100,000 after winning her state lottery in 1990 this Benz was kept in a climate controlled garage of its own for 20+ years and only driven in perfect weather. The hard top was stored in its protective cover and never installed until the day I purchased this amazing automobile seven years ago. Since that time I have maintained the tradition of care and the car reflects its history in every detail.

My wife and I have decided to travel for a while and the proceeds of this sale will help us through those times. We don't want to part with it but it makes sense at this time in our lives. Recent improvements include new premium tires, a full service, new top of the line brakes all around including drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic brake pads and a solid history of regular service intervals based on time rather than miles. The car at the time of this writing has only 57,000 original miles and has never had a dent or damage of any kind. It is 100% original paint and interior and is almost perfect.

The color is 702 Smoke Silver and the interior is Palomino Leather. The convertible top is original brown canvas with a light tan headliner. The plastic windows were replaced a couple of years ago due to discoloration. The seats, carpet and dash are in perfect condition. The interior is almost flawless.

Equipment includes climate control, full power windows, locks and top, cruise, fog lights, AM/FM original stereo with cassette and multiple CD player. The antenna is automatic, the doors and storage areas lock and unlock remotely There are 6 storage compartments inside the car that lock automatically when the car is left with the top down. The side mirrors are remote control as is the rear view mirror and the steering column is electronically adjustable both up and down as well as in and out.

The amazing performance comes from an all-aluminum 5.0L V8 with variable valve timing and fuel injection. It produces an incredibly smooth 322 horsepower with a reported top speed of 160 mph. The transmission is an electronically controlled automatic that can be shifted manually or fully automatic. The rear suspension is independent multilink and the handling is absolutely superb.

Safety features include numerous air bags, ABS brakes, padded dash and under dash knee bolsters, shoulder/lap restraints that are self-tightening in the event of a collision, an automatic roll bar that deploys instantly if a roll over is eminent and numerous other built in safety features.

The Mercedes Benz motto is "The best or nothing" is placed on every Mercedes that leaves the factory and it is particularly evident in this incredibly well engineered SL Roadster.

It isn't necessary for my wife and I to sell our Mercedes in order to complete our plans, I just don't want to place it in extended storage during our travels. If you are a discerning individual that would purchase and continue to care for the car that would be my preference at this point in time.

This is not your ordinary car and it is not a car that has gone unused for extended periods of time. It is a car that has had a good start and has been enjoyed and well cared for all through its past 27 years of ownership. It is in remarkable condition and has been valued by Hagerty, a well-known authority on classic automobiles, for $20,000. This is a generation lll SL roadster and has already begun its escalation in value and will continue to increase in value as time goes on. Most of all, it is a remarkable symbol of engineering excellence that has, in addition to classic looks, amazing performance and handling well beyond its peers.

I have all of the manuals, spare keys and other original documentation as well as a clear New Hampshire title. I also have a full factory set of service and parts manuals that will go with the car. The car includes a Mercedes Benz body cover, a Mercedes Benz hard top cover and a roll around stand for storage of the hard top.

The warranty on this car ran out long ago so I will be selling it without a warranty. The Benz is available for inspection after the necessary prior arrangements have been made so please contact me.
