Description for Mercedes-Benz 400-Series 1987
Very nice 420 SEL. I drive this car daily. I've had it a little over 3 years and love it. I would love to keep it and do a total restoration. It's the perfect candidate because its in such good shape. All the power features (windows, seats, headrest, door locks and trunk lock and antenna) work. The leather seats are in great shape with the exception of one small spot on the drivers back where you slide out. The paint is in good shape with exceptions of small rust starting to show on the right front fender and the driver's door and the paint has cracks that just started on the left rear quarter panel but not the trunk lid (photo with antenna on quarter panel). The things that would need attention are; The engine has a lifter sticking so it ticks. I've had the same problem with another 420 I owned several years ago and the fix was done by my local Midas shop. It took one day and was fairly inexpensive. A Mercedes Mechanic told me it was common and suggested that I change the oil and put some additive in and see if it would turn loose. Also burns some oil when cold and leaving my neighborhood (down a steep hill). Once on flat ground it clears up. Mechanic says its most likely a cracked tube that is allowing oil to flow the wrong direction and should be an easy fix. I change the oil often but I'm sure it could use a tune up too. I would have fixed the small stuff already but with winter coming the cows have to be fed so I'm selling. Really enjoy driving these big classic Mercedes and I'm sure I'll have another at some pint but for now it's got to go. The reserve is set at a fair price but the "Buy it Now" assures you get it. Don't let it get away. As long as it's paid for, I'll be glad to hold it for a bit and help with your shipping arrangements. Thanks for looking.
