Description for Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 1965
I have confidence you will not find a finer 230sl, 250sl, or 280sl on the market today. I have been a Mercedes mechanic and restoration enthusiast most of my life. This car was purchased 21 years ago after it had been shipped to the US by the second owner, a good Norwegian friend of mine who owned a business in Utah. He passed away and the car was acquired from his wife who currently lives in Norway. I also have the name of the original owner who lived in Sweden, where the car was originally purchased, and receipts from work he had done while it was in Sweden. The original 230 motor ended up with a frozen cracked block. I recently installed a low mileage (37,000) 280SL motor from a salvaged car and repainted the car to it's original white (it was unfortunately painted silver before it left Europe). The car has just over 82,500 kilometers, which equates to just over 52,000 miles. The advantage to the 280 motor is you have a lighter body in the 230sl than the 280sl and now have the stronger motor. No air conditioning in this one! It should have never been put in these cars because of the weight and too many problems, and this car was sold new without it. This car is very quick and will keep up with today's traffic easily as a result.I have the original build sheet, and this car also originally came with the beautiful color combination of a white body, sadle tan interior, blue tops, and a very rare luggage kit with driving gloves. I have one of the original Hepco luggage pieces and three reproduction pieces. I re-chromed most of the chrome but left the pieces which I considered too nice to mess with, so there are a few scratches and imperfections. All of the interior was redone in original materials i.e., German square weave carpet, German blue canvas top with the tan herring bone backing, top grain leather for the seats. The door panels and a few other interior pieces are original to the car and were just cleaned up, so again there is some normal wear and tear, but they are very presentable. This is not a 100 point show car, but is a beautiful driver and would most likely score fairly high if placed in a show. I would gladly pick up anyone wanting to see the car in person from the Salt Lake International Airport. And if you are pleased you could drive the car home or have it shipped. I will provide more pictures upon request and will try to download a link with more. I have been a member of e-bay for approx. 15 years and have maintained a 100 per cent satisfaction rating, so you can buy with confidence, Thank you!
