Description for Mercedes-Benz 190-Series 1988
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1988 Mercedes-Benz 190E for your consideration. This 1988 "Baby Benz" has the Champaign exterior; rare Walnut interior. 2.3 four-cylinder engine, four original keys, and purchased from original owner. Original owner purchased the car in Germany (Mercedes Benz European Delivery Program). All paperwork, brochures covering this included with the car. Complete folder from Mercedes, including paperwork & original bill of sale and Owners Manual. Very unique to the car is the installation of..."Zender" ground effects kit: Front & rear bumpers; side panels front to back. Spoiler on the trunk. (NOTE: there are four "notches" in the lower side moldings at the jack points. The clips for these notches are with the car). This kit is not like the kit seen on most other Mercedes.....very rare! When brought back to the United States, the car was properly maintained, and spent winters, not in Michigan, but in Florida: driven annually away from Michigan winters. The car was maintained with regular oil/filter changes by the previous owner, as well as other needed maintenance/parts repairs. Recent cleaning of Idle Control Valve. Oil & filter recently changed. Radiator flushed thoroughly and proper "HOAT" antifreeze replaced. All gauges & clock are working properly. Most importantly for this era Mercedes is that the miles are correct, and the speedometer & trip odometer work properly. Car currently runs well: starts & idles, goes into gears (forward & reverse) properly, shifts properly, and stops properly. Power steering works properly. I have recently driven the car to my Northern Michigan cottage several times, a 275 mile trip, with no issues. Cruise Control seems to work best on the freeway. Sunroof operative. Tires have ample tread. Please call or email us today for more information. The 1983-1988 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 was a somewhat unexpected version of Mercedes' entry-level W201 compact sedan - a "factory hot rod" to counter the sportiest small BMWs and to win some business back from aftermarket concerns that had been cashing in by turning ordinary Mercedes into high-performance "sports sedans". Starting with the everyday 190E 2.3, M-B installed a new twin-cam 16-valve version of its four-cylinder injected engine (developed by Cosworth in England), added "aero" rocker skirting and decklid spoiler, upgraded the suspension, enlarged the tires and antilock brakes, and spruced up the cabin with extra gauges, a bucketed two-place back seat, and standard leather trim.
