Description for Mercedes-Benz 400-Series 1973

Up for auction is a very rare Mercedes 450 SE. This model is increasingly difficult to find in the US. Short wheel base, chrome bumpers and a rarely seen factory red over parchment interior. This example was recently removed from storage and brought back to running condition. It had a radiator and coolant flush, new water pump, plugs, plug wires, new fan belts, new thermostat, fuel flush and a trans service and removal to reseal. A new master cylinder, brake lines and brake flush was performed as well as a few other services.
The original V8 fires right up, doesn't smoke and sounds healthy. The trans operates as it should and the brakes work well.It seems like all of the lights, wipers, flashers, windows, etc work fine- the AC,although complete, doesn't currently function. It appears that the 450 has been refinished once in red-just a driver quality job. Although it does show pretty well. The interior is in nice condition with very nice upholstery, carpet and factory headliner.
There are the usual minor cracks in the dash-not too bad and a nice dash cover fits well. Two of the tires are new. While I haven't driven the Mercedes too much, I can say that the brakes, transmission and engine work well. The body is straight and there doesn't appear to be any prior collision damage or significant repair. The glass is in good condition as is the trim. The factory spare and jack are secured in the trunk. While this is a nice example of a rare first "S" Class, it isn't perfect. The paint, while holding a nice shine and showing well, has a few chips, scratches and minor dings. The bumpers also have a few minor cosmetic issues and the door panel has a crack. While the car drives smooth like only an old Benz can, the suspension bushings are due for replacement and a couple of the tires are old date codes. If I didn't just pick up a car that I've been looking for, I'd finish this 450 up and enjoy it. Here's your chance to get a very rare model in rare colors. Offered at a very low reserve. Thanks for looking.
